GA- need a dog?

Al, run an ad in the Rapid City paper. I'll pay the freight for Buddy if you can't deliver him in person -- which I'd recommend so you can get a look at the new owners. Also will pay for ad.

Uncle,

Thanks for the offer. I'll be placing the ad here shortly. I just got all the stuff moved out of the studio and hooked up in my new apartment.

I'm moving slower after taking a fall off of an 8ft ladder last week, but I'm getting better every day. My girlfriend gave me a 10 for form on the fall... off the top and on to the concrete floor, missing my lights and ducking out of the way of the almuminum rail I was taking down. :)

Since I am now working for the newspaper where the ad will run, I won't need to worry about the cost of the ad (but thanks anyway). I'll keep everyone posted...

FROM THE VET

A client brought a litter of Alaskan malamute puppies to my
veterinary clinic for inoculations and worming. As the look-alike
pups squirmed over and under one another in their box, I realized it
would be difficult to tell the treated ones from the rest.

So, I turned on the water faucet, wet my fingers, and moistened
each dog's head when I had finished. After the fourth puppy, I
noticed my talkative client had grown silent.

As I sprinkled the last pup's head, the woman leaned forward and
whispered, "I didn't know they had to be baptized, too."

That was a good one...

Buddy update....

--- interesting news...

Looks like Buddy may not be part labrador after all... After doing some research, I think he is part Scottish Deerhound instead! The paper I work for ran a story on three deerhounds that were rescued from an abusive home. In the article, they mentioned a web site on SDHs and I went to take a look. Sure enough, photos on that site were spittin images of Buddy (after you figure in the Old English Sheepdog factor). I always wondered about the Labrador connection... I checked with Buddy's mom's owner and found out that she wasn't SURE about the Lab part... just that she caught a lab in the yard with Buddy's mom when she was in heat. I think a Deerhound got there first :D.

--- not so good news...

Still no home, and it looks like he might have Hip Displatia. I am going to start him on a series of shots that might help... after the sixth one, he'd just need a booster shot every few months. I don't know if this will help or not, it does wonders on some dogs, nothing on others.

If the drug treatment doesn't help, then I'll have to think seriously about putting Buddy to sleep. He's just a year old, and if he's suffering enough to not use his back left leg after playing, then I don't want him to suffer more. The vet said that it would just get worse for him as he gets older too. I'm praying that the drug treatment works for him...

I think I'm going to sneak him into the apartment with me in the next coupld of weeks. With luck, I won't be busted by the landlord. I want to keep him with me while he is going though his drug treatment... if nothing else so he'll have a happy last couple of months with me if the drugs don't work. If I get evicted, then I'll just move down to Rapid City and find a place there that'll let me keep him.

Stick together if you can.
