So who all has a Shamwari/Warlock II on order with Gareth (Gazza). I think he may be nearing the end, but anything could come up.

What steel and other options did y'all request. I'm waiting on a Lighting Strike Carbon Fiber M390 Shamwari. I've been at some level of excitement since he took my request. It's been about 5 months and I probably think about it at least once a day.

I generally search around for updates, but not too many people talking about his Shamwari Project.

Hey Elite_KG

Tis the year of the Shamwari release so I'll let a few more cats out the bag if you don't mind :)

The local engineers are opening tomorrow so I'll get my first look at the clip slot as well as the lock protector pocket (10th Jan OPENING - I think they might be over-charging me!)

Prototype lock protectors: These were made by hand on a drillpress of all things - tore my fingers to shreds making them but they came out so I'm happy - the titanium one is for the 3" model, the CF version is for the large proto, still not 100% sure it'll work so I'll do some destructive tests on it. Worst case scenario they'll all carry titanium protectors but they'll match the standoff that way so it's not a bad compromise.

Different jimping for the different sizes - more in proportion this way. Got a cool trick with the jimping that I'll do on the ultralights but that's still "classified" :D I really like the look the radiused spine gives the jimping.

Super Shamwari - obviously with Timascus but it has other cool metals involved too - still semi-classified

And finally the update to the ultralight plan. The blue details are all titanium (standoff and around the pivot as well as the inlaid leaf lock) Because of all the steel's on offer I'll put the steel name on the underside of the blade in the finger guard area.

As far as cool setups - there are a couple :) Right now I have M390 blades, RWL-34 and even a couple SM-100 blades on the bench :D

This is absolutely fabulous. Very clean and functional design. I think I need one:)

...I wish I had money. That ultralight design with a SM-100 blade? That looks like an insanely versatile piece. Hard use, duty knife or gentleman's.

Gareth makes some great knives and i can't wait to handle mine:D
Gareth's also one of the coolest guys you can talk to and very open minded.
Despite never handled one of his creations i definately encourage you to send him an email if you are interested in his knives.
Seriously guys, i can't wait...

wow. you've upped the grail-ness of your knives, Gareth. Shamwari in SM-100?!? M390?!? my head is spinning. I'd be extremely happy with a plain all-Ti model in RWL-34, and then you bring out these other options... these working knives are dressed for formal occasions! Keep it up man, a lot of people are going to be really happy.

Thanks for the update. It's great to see the evolution of possible options. Call me plain, but I like the more "traditional" LSCF/Titanium/M390. It's pretty spectacular and a testiment to your work in that combo being the most "traditional" of the more exotic options your are beginning to offer. Keep up the great work and don't be shy about posting a latest pic every now and then.

I too will own a shamwari! it would be cool to have ikbs invovled in the higher end ones

of course I'm more interested in my Warlock as I'm sure they will be done before the rest of the shawari's :)

After looking around for a while I have discovered there is no real direct size comparison between the Warlock and the Shamwari. My first impression after originally speaking with Gareth led me to believe the size profile of the two were the same and the Shamwari was just an upgraded version. Some information out indicates the Shamwari has a broader frame and blade height. Gareth if you are reviewing this thread, it would be great to see a side by side of a Warlock and the Shamwari prototype.

Anyone out there who has a Warlock, it would be nice to see it compared to another popular knife you may have for reference. Information feeds the hunger of the anticipation filled wait.

These are Marthinus' pics of the Warlock and Warlock XL:

I don't know what the exact measurements are for the Shamwari, but the orange Warlock is close to the same size as the titanium rendering in the 3rd pic of Gareth's post above in this thread.

Thanks for the photo credit.

Just one correction. The Larger model is an older model of Gareth called the SA Hunter. To date there are only a few large Warlocks that I know of.

Here is the SA Hunter compared:

Here is the small Warlock and the Large Warlock next to each other. Gareth finished this order for someone and posted the pictures. It was the last two made of 2012

Hey all

Just finished these two up, one large Warlock and one standard.

Both have 3mm RWL-34 blades, blasted titanium frames and stainless fittings, the large has textured carbon fiber and the small has smooth lightning-strike carbon fiber.

Thanks for the kind words gents.

EliteKG - you got it spot on mate the lengths will be the same. By far the most popular size has been the 3" blade. I think it's a mix of meeting laws and the fact that a good 3" blade can get a lot done in our modern lives. The 3.4" was dictated by what I felt would result in the most hand-filling handle but still small enough to EDC - your knife's no good to you at home in a drawer :D The best way to do a size comparison right now is my CAD design so I put all 3 together: Top is the large Shamwari, bottom is the WarLock.

Sizes.jpg

Little easier to highlight the changes this way. You can see the broader dimensions and the dropped guard area, the Warlock is based on a continuous line along the bottom so the guard is in line with the blade, the Shamwari's is a bit more pronounced.

Here's a 3" in hand (the grind is pre-hardening rough grind - still needs to be raised to the proper height and crisp up the grind line) :

How the radius exposes the jimping (this one's a linerlock):
DSC04714.jpg

Matching 2-tone spacer (most of the shamwari's will have turned standoffs, I just wanted the color-scheme here)
DSC04702.jpg

I'll get some side by sides up as soon as I have some finished ones, I'm keeping the Warlock design and like Wolf mentioned, I'm killing orders alongside prototyping so there will be real-world comparative photos :)

Here is the proto:

Hey Gents

Finished this one up just before midnight last night. It's a linerlock version of my Shamwari (Bit simpler to make - no sandblasting and no outsourced engineering!) and I'm chuffed with how it came out. The framelock versions will be coming on track soon, but this was a nice way to test the theory.

Specs:
Blade - RWL-34 ground high and hollow (I used a 450mm wheel so it's pretty shallow as hollow grinds go)
Liners - 2mm Titanium
Spacer - Orange G10
Scales - Olive G10

The blade's got a radiused spine for a bit more comfort during cutting, really enjoy this touch. It also makes the jimping look pretty cool ;)
