There with ya Tony... Been getting 3 days or more a week on the bike to work now...

All my cars have either locking gas caps, or the latch is un-locked from inside the car. This is where we are heading unfortunately...

It is nice to hear that those that can are using bikes. It makes for a great attitude adjustment on the way to work

That's why the new breed of gas thieves are just drilling tanks and draining them. Read something about this in the paper the other day.

I'd pedal if there weren't bridge construction between me and work. Right now, pedaling across that bridge with the nutty Tennessee drivers is like playing Russian roulette on a bike. Maybe when they're done, I can start biking in.

I remember in the 70's a guy shot and killed another guy for cutting into a gas line. I can not imagine sitting in jail for years thinking about it.

i hate to know i had to wear spandex and ride here in Tn. You might question your own sexual orientation after every ride. I could see it now "Get a Car You _Homo____" that is being nice.. pretty backwoods where i live......thats if they didnt run you off road or throw a beer bottle at u.

Well if you rode a bike for more than 20-30 miles a day in anything but "spandex" you wouldn't be feeling sexy enough to worry about it. :p

u need that butter huh...........i have wore my fair share.. but Tn is different that Tacoma WA. Mostly Downhill though we wore armor over our spandex......ha ha It's easier in Tennessee on this........

I wish I could ride a bike to work.
40 miles one way.
Really have to watch the bike riders around here, they think you owe them the road.I had one last week ride up beside the trailer of the truck (semi truck)while I was turning. They came that close!I swore about it for the next 30 min.
I will get a locking gas cap in a couple days.I don't think they would try to drill the tank,if I heard them they would not be able to get out from under the truck fast enough.I have a baby monitor set up outside but had it turned off last night because of the fireworks.

There are some that are careless and think they are owed the road while riding a bike, but riders just need to be smart, and always remember that your knees and elbows are your bumpers... They won't hold up to traffic well.

Many cities do not offer bike lanes or provisions for riding a bike for any reason. I remember San Jose being well equiped to handle bike traffic and wondered why all suburban areas didn't make some effort to provide similar items. I am lucky in that I have mostly bike trails to ride to work (about 70 yards where I HAVE to ride on the street). When not on a trail, I use the sidewalks. Too dangerous here not to... Courtesy helps. If I am on the sidewalk, I dismount when I pass a pedestrian.

It is a great attitude adustment as Tony mentioned. Even rubbs off on others. My boss now rides his motorcycle in to work instead of his Durango. My kids think it's cool, and that's my favorite part!!

Well the up side of $6.50 gas is that there should be more room out there:cool:

I own a tire shop and i have alot of old guys hanging out all the time. One old guy who was a farner told me someone was stealing his tractor gas out of his storage tank. He was sure it was a nieghbor down the road so the next time it needed filling he put diesel in it... in a few day his nieghbors car wouldnt run...........Good for him i say.

That's the best revenge I've heard around here yet! :D
The creep can't even complain. He might not even realize what happened.

Sometimes on a bike you have to act like you own the road - there's a bunch of drivers out there who won't notice if you don't. More than one person has been killed around here when a driver doesn't see their bike and they get pushed out of the bike lane into traffic, or hit with a door. Pedestrians aren't much better. I was going down the bike lane and had someone wander right into me. Of course it was my fault

On the other hand, I don't have any love for bikers who weave through traffic, run red lights, tailgate cars, or otherwise drive dumb. (most of this thread applies to bikes of the pedal variety)

I was coasting down the street when a woman stepped out from between two cars in the middle of the block. I stopped more than ten feet away and waited for her to cross. Instead she turned towards me and began screaming about how dangerous bike riders like me shouldn't be allowed on city streets! I mean really shrieking!

I got a good laugh out of it, which didn't make her any happier either. :D

Yeah I wish I could bike to work, less money and I could use the exercise. Unfortunaltly it is 25 miles to work by Freeway, if I take a bike friendly route it is more like 35-40 with some seriouse hills in the route. I have a locking cap on my truck, been there since gas was $3/gal, yeah, bought it 6 months ago.

I try to watch for them, most know what they are doing.I was at a light turning onto a freeway on ramp. She road right up along side the trailer on my blind side,She was very lucky I just happened to be looking in that mirror as I turned and she came into view.If I had something that needed my attention in the other mirror or ahead she would most likely have been under the rear tires.

I feel for you brother.... I had a attempt several years ago... they never came back when I set the dogs out on them and emptied a full mag of 9mm in the tailgate of their getaway truck. :D
