Howdy folks-

J Williams came up with a really excellent idea, so I wanted to unofficially poll WSS to see who would be interested.

We both agreed that first aid is an often under-appreciated aspect of outdoor gear, so we wanted to start a first aid kit pass-around. Person A will mail one first aid item to Person B, then that Person B will add an item they feel is important, then mail both items to Person C, etc..

So by the end, there'll be a full first aid kit put together, as assembled by the whole group. The kit could then be raffled off or something at the end.

If this sounds like something you're interested in being a part of, sound off!

Official passaround list: (italics means I've got your info)

I am thinkin I could put together a minamilistic kit w/ trauma shears, 4x4s, kerlex, and a roll of tape in a zip lock and start from there.......

Ive got sevral kits made up, so if we can get this squared away, I can get one out to the first person. Would you guys rather start off w/ a minimalist kit like I described, OR, just a pair of trauma shears, and each adds 1 item?

Sounds like a plan to me. One item and each adds one or two. We got 6 people then so far, we need some more to get the ball rolling. This could be neat............

i'm in...i'm sure i can think of something useful.

what i like about this is that a person's item might already be added, so they will have to think of something else...

I'd like to get in on this. I carry a few simple items I don't see in every other med kit that you all might like.

We shouldnt need more then 2 or 3 days to look over the kit and passit on, so I am thinkin maybe capin it at 20 or so people if we can get that many, maybe more......

If we do get too many on the list, we can start two kits, say, one out west and one in the east. When we finish them both, we can post the results with pictures, and see how similar they are.

Alright guys, I've edited to above list to be the 'official' pass-around list. If you are not on it and want to be, let me know! Here are the rules:

- You must add one item (or multiples of the same item, such as multiple 4x4" gauze pads, etc.) to the first aid kit that you feel belongs in any respectable wilderness kit. It should be of a size that an average backpacker would be willing to carry with him (so leave the ECG monitor out). Do not take any items from the kit.

- You may only add legal, non-prescription items to the kit, that can legally be shipped to others. Leave out the antibiotics, Percocets, etc...

- It would be best to try and get the package re-shipped within a few days. I don't want to put some strict time limit on it, but it helps ensure everyone gets the kit in a fair amount of time.

- You must post (in a soon-to-be-made thread) when you get the package, what you added, and why.

- When the kit is finished, there will be a contest of some kind between those who participated to see who will win & keep the kit.

Pretty clear and fair?

This is the last call for those interested, after a day or two I will close the list. We are probably going to keep shipping in the order above. I will consolidate the shipping addresses when I close the list, and get everyones personal info, so that I can give shipping info person-by-person once this thing gets rolling.

Take care!
