  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

I stopped collecting knives a couple of years ago. I've tried buying more since, but they don't "do it" for me any more.
It is a good feeling selling the collection and putting the money into something else. Like tools you don't already have 12 of, or a new car.

seeker/longbow

rather clear, they want to quite, and i want to help them. i don't drink, but if you too want to quite, send all your knives to me. plan and simple, i'll help you speed up the process. Another great way is to close every account that allows u to buy. But you will soon be doing something else. for sure. That is why i buy knives, guns, women, zippos, golf, black jack all went upside down with interest for me. get ready for a huge sale.

There used to be a point in time when I get into a new hobby I get a ton of that one thing.

I had over 22 guns, I had over 15 watches, and a few race cars/weekend toys etc. I normally do something all the way.

Now a days it's just different. I scaled my guns back to about 10. 1 I carry everyday. The rest mostly just for range trips or hunting. I am selling them off tho, slowly. I only have 1 watch I predominately use everyday. I no longer have a race car. I just keep it simple.

I only have 2 knives. I enjoy them both a lot. My spyderco southard and dragonfly 2 with zdp-189. Both fantastic in their own right. Not interested in any others at this point and I'm proud of that.

I was a heavy collector for several years in the 2000s (I have about 100 fixed and folders) but have cut back a lot in the last couple years because I've got most of what I want. My most recent acquisition was last month and it was the ZT0566 that I was waiting for since it was announced. I think all I've bought in the last 2 yrs or so was an ESEE Candiru, Caly 3.5, Para2 and Kershaw Cryo. The 566 is my main EDC and I don't see myself getting anything else for a while, though I've been jonesing for a Spyderco Southard!

ETA: I too am scaling back on a lot of stuff and trying to cut down on all the clutter. With times the way they are, the fact that I've got a 2yr old's education to plan for, a mortgage I want to pay off asap, it just makes sense for me to be more conservative with the spending. I'm also getting more involved with my photography and starting an actual business with it so I'm sure gear will be eating up a lot of funds again (I've already spent in the neighbourhood of $15 to $20k in photography gear over the years - cameras, lenses, lighting, etc).

I have been on a knife/firearm collecting bender for years. I have bought knives over the $1k mark. Over the past couple years I have sold off many of the pieces I will never use. Kept a few CRK's and a few Busse's, Spyderco's etc. I have found many knives of the lower $ persuasion that have made me very happy. I have purchased several Condor Parangs and Goloks that are immensely fun to pound on with zero guilt involved. Same with a $100-$150 Spyderco folders.

The rampant "knife-flation" can't go on forever lol this. Mass production folders $250+ and the outrageous secondary markets (ala ZT limited releases 777,888). Mid-techs $500-$800 all day long and customs with three year wait times at prices $2,500+.

While I am lucky to have the means, I no longer desire to play like I once did.

this is what i plan to do to prevent me from going too far in this hobby.
i have a small knife storeage case which holds 16 knives. i told myself not to exceed the 16 limit. if and when i have more than 16 knives, i will start to sell from my colloection to keep the max numbder of knives to 16. i will have to sell 1 in order to buy another 1. but i havn't put a $ amount limit to the collection. this is not good as 16 knives can add up to a large amount $ for custom knives.
