GAW: Memorial Day 2015 **WINNERS**

I'm in (technically). Thanks for your service and the great GAW.

My grandfather served with Audie Murphy in WWII. One great uncle was a rear admiral in the Navy. Two uncles served in the Navy. A nephew served in the Navy. My son serves now in the Coast Guard and my adopted son is a Marine over in Afghanistan right now on his second tour. My stepson will be joining the Air Force after high school.

Thanks to all of the men and women who have served and are serving, and a special thanks to those who gave all for our freedom.

With respect to that, if I win, I'll donate the knife to an enlisted person on the recommendation of one of my sons. They tell me stories all the time of young kids who are serving that come from poor backgrounds and have nothing waiting for them back home. A nice blade would be small gesture of thanks to them for their service.

I am in.

My grandfather served in WW2. He died when I was 13, and was a truly great man. He never flaunted his service, just had a few remembrances on a dresser in his room. They always intrigued me.

Funny, I was just talking to my wife today about how I wish my grandpa left us a knife to remember him by. Winning one of these wouldn't totally replace an heirloom, but it could serve as a reminder of him and his service each time I carried it, with the premise of the GAW and all. Any one of these would be a great addition to pass to my son someday.

Thank you for your generosity

I'm in.

Thanks to you and to all of our service members for their service. The selflessness and commitment of those who serve and have served is venerated and appreciated.

Great GAW. Thank you.

I am in. My Great Grandfather WWI CEF France, My Grandfather USA WWII and Korea, My Father USMC Korea and Vietnam, and My Great uncle USMC KIA WWII. all are gone now, but i do not think there is a day that goes by that I don't think of them or of the stories of there lives. God Bless all who have served and are serving.

Well, pictures I have none, but memories aplenty.

First off, my grandfather. US Army, World War 2. He was an MP in Italy after 1943, and actually got a commendation from General Patton for leading a raid on a black-market arms and materiel ring.

Second, my great-uncle. USA as well, paratroops, 117 PIR. He was there the night before D-day. Died back in the fifties, can't tell you much about him.

I need to stop and see Grandpa today. My great-uncle's out at Arlington, bit of a drive.

I'm in. thank you for your service, and every one else on this forum.
Thank you for this opportunity. I have a uncle that was Mia in the Philippines during the second world war. I also have a uncle that suffered from ptsd after Vietnam. My sister and my now ex also suffers from ptsd after there time in Iraq war.

I have an announcement for all who entered Mike's Memorial Day Give Away; Mike just called me from the hospital. He has some sort of upper respiratory thing going on and expects to be in the hospital for another day or two.
He apologizes for the delay in announcing the winners, but will do so in a day or two when he gets home and is able to pick the winners and mail the prizes out. Thanks for your patience everyone.

Hopefully he gets better quickly. I let a sinus infection go untreated too long this year. After 3 weeks I went in when it started hurting my teeth! Took a month, and two seperate trips to urgent care for more and stronger drugs.

Hey EyeDog, what a great way to celebrate the lives of those lost. This is not an entry, but a THANK YOU to all who have served and all who paid the ultimate price.

God bless all of you.

First memory that came to my mind was being 15 years old and watching my dad after they shot over my grandfathers casket. He walked over and picked up all the spent cartridges and put them in his pocket. He has them in a case along with his airborne jump wings still today. Here is his veterans cross that is put out every year in the park here in town

I'm in too! Thanks for the GAW! Great idea and we will never forget!
