GAW: Memorial Day 2015 **WINNERS**

I am in.

My grandfather served in WW2. He died when I was 13, and was a truly great man. He never flaunted his service, just had a few remembrances on a dresser in his room. They always intrigued me.

Funny, I was just talking to my wife today about how I wish my grandpa left us a knife to remember him by. Winning one of these wouldn't totally replace an heirloom, but it could serve as a reminder of him and his service each time I carried it, with the premise of the GAW and all. Any one of these would be a great addition to pass to my son someday.

Thank you for your generosity

In the lucky event the entry for ghorn1101 is chosen as a winner, please refer to this account, ghorn11. I had some issues logging in and created a temporary account and forgot to log in under my original before entering. The post is quoted above.

Again, I hope you find health quickly, and thank you for your kindness in this give away!

I am in if it is not too late. Mike I pray you have a speedy recovery and get well soon. I am currently serving overseas and if I'm lucky enough to win we still have USPS, but if that poses a problem I understand as it would be extra work to ship because of the customs form and stuff. Mike I feel for you, it isn't easy losing a brother or sister in combat. Don't let it eat you up brother and don't dwell on it. I appreciate your service and I tip my hats to my fellow service members and all the veterans throughout the world. Get well soon Mike.

WINNERS SELECTED BUT NOT ANNOUNCED YET

Because of the three-knife GAW and giving the winners a choice—the winners will not be announced until I have all the selections. I am in the process of contacting the winners.

HOWEVER…

I want to thank everyone for your get well expressions. I ended up spending two days in the hospital with a sever sinus infection. Thanks to Bob (BigBiscuit) for letting you know I was going to be late with the GAW.

VERY TOUCHING…

Mrs. EyeDog (Judy) and I spent the morning reading all of the responses to this GAW. We both had tears in our eyes when we finished. So many you left really heart felt messages and some gained some inspiration in the process. That really warmed our heart and was a big uplift getting back from the hospital.

Thanks for hosting that great GAW - Mike.

Great idea for that day. I didn´t chime in as I wasn´t active while it was going on. But even if I would have been; I wouldn´t have been taking part in here. My ancestors were fighting on the other side of frontline and died as well as the ones on any other country. My grandpa´s brother died in Russia in 1944, he was Obergefreiter at the Wehrmacht. And a cousin of my grandma died in the Ukraine in 1943 being part of the SS. Never met the men. But I wish I would. I have learned a lot from my grandpa who was in Kriegsmarine in Norway, died in 2003 on a heartbeat.

The result I learned from grandpa: Every death in a war is a useless one - no matter what the uniform is showing.
