GB2 on the way out?

The very obvious (IMO) need for slightly better access to the liner lock is easily taken of using that Dremel tool.
I got mine out this week and then ran out of time...working on my 1927 Illinois Bunn Special Railroad watch...losing 5 seconds/day...bummer...another labor of love for sure...
...5 secs a day is totally in spec for this watch.

Funny how opinions can differ so much. I’ve owned probably close to 50 different Spydercos and the GB2 is one in my more permanent collection. I think it is one of the best knives they’ve made. The action on it is incredible and it comes apart and goes back together much more easily than most Spyderco knives.
The GB2 carries and feels a lot like my Umnumzaan in hand. I added a little fluorinated grease and it’s just as smooth

So maybe I missed it, but have there been any official confirmations on the GB2 being discontinued or not? Kicking myself for not getting one sooner now :(

Hopefully it doesn't have the same fate as the Slysz Bowie and announce it was supposed to be on the disco'd list after it's sold out.
Yes, good point. I think that happened to another model too. Can't remember which one at the moment

I have had a few GB1's and GB2's. Finally kept a GB2, and I think it's a fine knife.
Of course, I have to dremel out some of the scale so I can get easier access to that lockbar, but that's on the list.

Pics... because.

I guess I should count myself lucky that the lock design on neither of the GB models has been a problem for me. Maybe it is because I am left handed and I approach disengaging the lock differently than most.

The 1 was my first Spyderco, October 2013. I paid $145 from BHQ. One of these days I'll get around to have someone make custom scales and make a lock bar cut out. It's a fine knife, though it does get some surface rust if I don't wipe it down once every few weeks. It would get more carry time if it weren't for the lock.

You should tweak it if so inclined. Since doing a lock/thumb hole mod on my GB2, it's becoming one of my favorite knives. Gone from sitting in a drawer, to a regular spot in my dump tray rotation.

I looked around to buy a GB2 last week and found that none were in stock. I have 2 GB1s. One has the skeletonized liners and the other I think is the first run that didn't have skeletonized liners. I ended up getting a Gayle Bradley Advocate instead since they're discontinued and heavily discounted at the moment.

I have the GB1 and 2. I just always gravitate to the 1. Maybe since I feel it’s a bit beefier. I was going to pick up and Advocate yesterday. I called to see if it has the updated CQI pivot and the rep said it’s not CQI; Original pivot. I might still pick one up at that price since it still is covered under warranty.

Is there a way to determine if it has the CQI pivot or do you just have to ask the dealer?

From my understanding the bearing race is thicker and larger ball bearings. Original has a thin bearing race (bronze washer) that cupped or the bearings dented a crease on the washer. I guess you could look if there is dishing on the race. Some said there may be a date code somewhere? Or the full proof way is to somehow compare and older version to a newer. I know some retailers disclose on their description that it is CQI. I looked and those are a bit more expensive than one on clearance.

I’d love to see the 1 comeback with a different scale option. I had two of them and like a fool let them get away. Never did warm up to the 2 enough to grab one. I am also one that is fine with no lock access cut out, ruins the symmetry. I’ve never liked the way that looks, or the possibility of hand pressure disengaging, and had no trouble closing it.
