Gear for your Wife/Girlfriend

I guess you have heard about the hiker in Georgia Meredith Emerson that was killed a few months back. Well that scared the $hit out of my wife so she started being more aware of her surroundings. With that I pounced and bought her a Benchmade mini auto Stryker. She now carries it everywhere and I have taught her a few offensive attack lines to use with it. I feel better when she goes out now with my kids.

I obsess about all sorts of knives, flashlights, lighters and so on. you know, like 90% of the users on here. but you can only buy so much for yourself. Also, when you upgrade something on your own EDC, what else would you do with the old item?

does your wife/girlfriend request that you set them up with gear? or do you force it upon them, like i do?

my girlfriend is 21, (i'm 24, so it's not quite AS sweet as it sounds) and has no interest in knives, or flashlights or lighters or anything of the sorts, but...i wanted her to carry a knife. so i got her a Spyderco Meadowlark. She's a bartender, so when i came across the Firebyrd, i had to buy her that as well. open customers' beers, give them a light, or threaten them...with one convenient tool. then i got her a Fenix P3D. and recently, when i got myself a Photon III (red), i gave her my Photon II in white.

in summation, my girlfriend's EDC is...
Spyderco Meadowlark
Fenix P3D
Photon II. among other things.

now... i'm a watch guy (just got a Dievas Divergraph Blue Professional) and i'm dying to get her a nice watch. but i have no idea which one. i was leaning towards to Zodiac Seadragon, but she despises anything pink.
anyone have any recommendations?

so...like the EDC thread, post any gear your special lady friend has requested, or you've forced upon her. so i can set about doing what i did for myself. buying every single neat gadget i saw.

My wife's gear is a Sig 226 9mm and a beat-up Benchmade that she keeps in her purse. My gear is a Wilson Combat .45 plus a few other pistols, a rifle, and a Remington 870. I also have a few blades, including my Strider SMF.

I got a new Wenger Evo 16 a while back. The other day my wife asked to look at it. I showed it to her and she stuck it in her pocket and I have not seen it since. Gotta get me another one I guess.:D

Before that she carried a little old timer with a small scissors. She always carries a knife of some kind.

In ten days we celebrate our 40th anniversary. The kids are taking us camping for that weekend.

My wife asked for (and received) a Spyderco Kopa for her birthday this year. It's taken this long for me to try to convince her that she needed a pocket knife of some sort, but now she loves it. I'm still doing maintenance on it, though. Might take a while to convince her to use the SharpMaker.

A Chris Reeve Mnandi would be very nice.

CR Camel Thorn Mnandi

You might also get her a Surefire E1B Backup. My current favorite flashlight.

my wife who passed away in '06 had a concealed carry permit and usually packed a SIG P225 or a kahr PM9, some OC, microtech mini SOCOM elite, had 2 (two) swiss army knives in her purse ( a ranger and a camper IIRC), along w/a kershaw chive , an arc "aaa", surefire E2e, she loved to shoot also.

my current girlfriend is afraid of guns though.

That seemed a tad inappropriate.

If Sandy's wearing shorts, jeans or scrubs (IV Infusion Pharmacist) she's always got her Mini Mojo clipped in the pocket. I've even caught her with one of my Mini Cyclones clipped inside her purse. Also in the purse is a S&W .38 Airweight, and in her car is a S&W 4006 (yup, got a CCW, too) and a Surefire E1. Can ya tell she's a relative of Devil Anse Hatfield?

She also digs stuff from Fredericks, too! ;)

Gotta love Kentucky mountain wemmen! :D

IV Infusion Pharmasist? I just got flashbacks from treatment two years ago, for a nasty infection I had in my foot! Expensive as hell with no insurance.

Sorry, back to the main topic...
My Wife generally only EDC's a small pair of scissors since we work together, and don't spend too much time apart, so basically she has all of my gear at her disposal.

Vancomiacin, right? She isn't the one to stick ya, she just mixes the bags. Musta been a bad infection...hope you're better now.

My wife won't go out and buy her own gear, but she'll use what I get her. She EDCs a Victorinox Signature Lite, a whistle, and some Fox 40 spray.

My little lady carries a Mouse II, if she's around the house and has a real small Atwood FB in the purse. Her favorite light is her E1e. She likes them cute and effective.

As for the watch she's got the Black dialed LL Bean Ladies field watch. She's abit of a klutz, and till I can find a good Ladies Pilot it's good enough. I've got a Sinn 656, which she'd like smaller and I'd like bigger.

One thing I think I've learned about buying gear. Buy what you like. But she gets to have anything she wants.

If your going to spend "another" or "only" $100. Next time you need to go and buy her a good $100 bottle of Perfume. Research it and make a few trial trips to the mall and find the "Right" one. Talk about it and try the different styles. It will be some of your best EDC money you'll be spending., Well, that and the good structural support systems.

That might have been it, can't remember. All I can remember was $137.50/day, out of pocket for 8 weeks! Fairly hassle free though, I had a Pick Line installed.

Okay, back to girls gear...

How would you like it if she gave you scented candles and tea for your birthday?

The scented candles would be great in my firestarter kit and the tea, could be tested for tinder, or even o into my cook kit. She is very thoughtfull that way.

Seriously though, there are a lot of knife manufacturers who make knives geared for women, but if the woman does not want them, hopefully she will never need the one you gave her when you found that out. On the other hand, you could ask to borrow the knife you did give her so you could cut those candles to a size that fits into your survival kit.:D

HA!!!! a few years back my wife said she wanted something "frilly" for her birthday....so I made her a ghillie suit!!!! next thing I know she's out in the yard with my edible plants guide chowing on greenage..then she decides to try and touch a deer.. now shes got a 308 and outshoots me on the range!!! we argue about whos kukri is better and I spend all my extra money on her!!! I've created a monster!!!!!!
