GEC # 15 Boys Knife Suggestions

Oh my, the Pemberton with black buffalo horn scales should be a SWEEEET one. We'll want pictures when it arrives. I've been looking at them for awhile.
Just might be my GEC.

I generally prefer single blade. I do have a few with two blades, but none with more than two. Whatever suits your needs is what you should go with, you can't go wrong with either.

Well folks I didn't end up getting the boys knife, I did however just order a GEC Pemberton with black buffalo horn scales. Looking forward to getting it cant wait.

Congrats! Pics when it arrives please :)

I absolutely love the Pemberton, mine is with me nearly always in combination with my #55. The Pemby is a sweet knife in every way. You're gonna love it.

Debating between a second EO or the soon to be released radio. I love how light and thin the EO is and I LOVE the EO feature, but part of me wants to use the same handle shape but adding a caplifter. The original 2 bladed versions never interested me because I wouldnt use a secondary blade, but id find use for a caplifter :). Are the 2 bladed 15's still light enough to carry in slacks? I just worry the knife will double in width and take away part of why I love my 15 so much in the first place. I also think the radio could be my weekend knife since I wont find the need to open some beers at work. EO for during the week and radio for weekend seems like nice fit, but id still want the radio to be comfortable in my jeans and/or watch pocket. (pretty much talking outloud at this point lol)

you will have to decide by doing some shopping or else you will never know

for what its worth I have a single blade charlow that weighs as much as 11.4 nickels and a 2 blade charlow that weighs as much as 14.4 nickels. The difference is the weight of 3 nickels, each being 5 grams.

So try this, take your single blade, tape 3 nickels to it, and put it in your slacks, then tell me if its too heavy for you.

In terms of thickness your 3 nickel knife is similar to a 2 blade, so you can make some guesses about that too.

The single blade is 3/8" thick, the 2 blade is 4/8" thick, a difference of 1/8", which is a 33% increase.

In summary, a 2 blade is 26% heavier and 33% thicker.

Now you still need to go buy one of each :-)

Threads like this where people ask which one should I buy, are best answered with, Get Both. Then post a review that answers all the questions you had, and point the next person to ask the same question to your review.

And please post links and pictures of the knives you are talking about. Happy Shopping :-)

Thank you so much for the detailed response. I guess you're right though. I already have a single bladed version. Might as well try out the double for my self and determine if it's for me. Being that it'll probably be a weekend/stay at home knife, the added thickness/heft shouldn't matter too much anyways.
