GEC 25s - Gots 'em?

To all the admirers and collectors of #25s,

I am seeking out the Red Jigged Bone #251109. This is the run that also had the awesome Birthday Cake (which I was so happy when I finally added that one to the collection). I just acquired the Smokey Pearl so I will have the full run except the Red Jigged Bone. If someone has one of these and even if not willing to sell, could you post a photo as I have yet to see one in the wild.

Thank you.

Still enjoying the "ride along" on your quest for various 25's. It's fun for me to watch from the sidelines!!

I wish gec's photo archives were more complete. I found myself in the same situation. The production numbers are somewhat better .

Sometimes you get offered some that you just can not pass up. Epic mail call.
Left to right: Tractor Red 1 of 50 (#252208), Cracked Marble 1 of 4 (#253208J), Pink Squirrel 1 of 2 (#251208LPJ), Tiger Acrylic 1 of 2 (#252208 OH), and Grape Jig Bone 1 of 50 (#252110EOJ)

Those are great! It seems like GEC did some really creative handle materials in the early days. That grape bone is just awesome.

What I don't understand is how a collector like you goes about tracking down all these knives. I'd really appreciate it if you would PM me with some tips. I'd really like to get a particular #82.

Thanks so much for the awesome mammoth barlow. I never thought I would find that one! And of course, thanks for supporting my addiction!

I know!! I went to the photo archive but could not find a photo of the Red Jigged Bone #251109 so was hoping someone in this thread would have one to post.

No need for a PM as I really have don't have any tips that you would not have figured out on your own.

Step One: You need to be slightly insane and obsessed. In my case, with these little guys.
Step Two: It helps to get involved in these forums (although I really only post in this one as see Step One ;) ) And as well in the FB groups. People get to know you so sometimes I am offered #25s before they list them elsewhere. Or someone will tag me in a #25 sales post. I also scour eBay but I really have to decide what my best offer will be and to stick to my guns and not go over this price. It is hard but I have let some good ones go. However I am in this for the long haul so I just tell myself I will find it elsewhere at a more reasonable price... eventually.
Step Three: So far I have been lucky enough to have the financial means and/or trade fodder to grab these knives when they are listed. And of course, to kind of contradict Step Two, I do know the prices are kind of crazy at the moment but sometimes when you come across a 1 of 2 or a 1 of 4, you have to be willing to pay a bit more.
Step Four: Probably the most important step for me. I have a great better half who doesn't blink an eye when I say that I have bought a collection of 30 knives. In fact, this has been overheard in my household, "Why are you going through your knives and selling some". "Because I am about to buy 30 #25s at once". "Yeah but you like your knives so don't sell them if you don't want to!"

Now, for the ultimate troll... I have a #25 in Kryptonite Acrylic that I don't want. Think I'll take it to the flea market.
:oops::rolleyes:o_O:confused::cool::thumbsdown::thumbsup: (not really, remember this IS a troll remember! And it ain't for sale cuz I can't, by the rules.)

I think I fall down on steps 2 and 3.

I feel like pretty active on the forum, and I certainly don't have time to be much more active, but I realize that other people are both more involved here and also involved in other forums (AAPK, USN, Reddit, etc.) where I have accounts but almost never visit. I looked at Ebay but never seem to find that much variety, and what I do find is just priced out of my range.

As for the second, I feel bad that I have been generously offered first dibs on some knives (and I really appreciate that) that I've had to turn down because it didn't make sense financially at the time.

I always thoroughly enjoy seeing collections like yours grow and change.

I can't believe that I allowed this thread to fall all the way down to Page 7. It is going to be a knot tying kind of day today. Red jigged bone #253208J. I have discovered that the GEC red jigged bone from 2008 is more of a strawberry color versus a darker red from 2009. I was thinking this would match my #26 from 2009 but the colors are a little off. It is a 1 of 50 but I have yet to see another one in the wild! Anyone else own one?

Very nice! My pack has grown to a herd! Is a herd bigger than a pack? Or is a pack "a pack" as they hunt together? Maybe mine is more like a school of fish. Or maybe they are like rabbits and just like to multiply. ;)

I am going with "school" when it comes to your collection. If only just because you have taken us all to "school" on how to collect #25's.:D
