GEC #57 "Geppetto" Whittler - New Clip-Points

Kevin,
glad you are happy with this knife, just like Rick. I have a question for you both.
Is the handle shape comfortable when using the clip blade? It just looks a bit odd to me and I'm curious to know how you feel it.
Great looking knives for sure!

Fausto,

I have used mine twice today and yes I think its very comfortable.

I will put some longer term thoughts in "what traditional" as I use it more.

Kevin

Kevin,
thanks for your feedback. The fact that the handle is wider towards the blade makes it look unusual and a bit weird. I've never handled a knife like that, so that's why I was curious. For some reasons (which I'm not able to explain) it looks less weird with the wharncliffe blade, compared to the new clip ones.

I'm with you Fausto. Its a little strange but in hand its a nice design and like most designs after some use and handling I tend to see them in a different light.

Wow what a beauty! What brand and model is that? I am itching for some stag, I have yet to own any :o

They are Great Eastern Cutlery. Let me just give one piece of advice on these whittlers if I may. They are a little more complicated by design and take a little more skill to pull off so if you go for one ask the dealer to check yours out first. I have four now (including the pink one I gave my girl) and only one had an issue that was resolved after repair work, but either way :)

Something I wanted to add that doesn't make a difference to me but really impressed me is how the backsprings are perfectly flush open and closed. On the two secondary blades they are also perfectly flush in the half stop position. I thought it was worth adding.

I was planning to get a real nice pic of the shield side but I will have to post this instead.

I love the stag on this knife.

I love the stag on this knife.

It's a beauty, for sure. Looks like the pins are well set, and the stag is stable. Not that GEC's stag is ever "unstable"? But I don't like it when the pins and crevasses appear to be unevenly placed, pins at a certain height (with some of the head protruding) regardless of the depth of a particular natural trench.

Now, for that shield.... ;)

Nice, thanks for the link to this thread, I've #33 heading my way.
And yep, beautiful stag on that one!

Got mine yesterday when I got home from my business trip, very nice, love the main blade a lot, but all three blades were duller than a rock :( but that was remedied tonight, now, all three be sharp indeed ;)
The stag on mine aren't as well matched as yours, but still it's quite a nice knife, told my daughter I think I finally found the ONE, she laughed, as she usually does :)

Mine were dull too. Good thing you have that edgepro! Can we look forward to pics? Congrats btw, Gary. I thought it was the one when I got it too. Its so nice I stopped carrying it though. I'm back to my spring green older version :)

Yep, I'll post some images when I can get the time, just home, seems like I've been on the road forever!!!
And it'd be nice if this was the one, we'll see ;)

edited to add: Like the wharncliff whittler, I felt the need to trim down the kick on the main blade, as I could pretty easily slip my finger down and catch the tip, got a very nasty cut from the wharncliff version, this one isn't as severe but still there, well, not any more...

Here's a few quick shots, you can see the nice edge that the EdgePro provided these blades

I think the smaller blades are just a hair thicker than the wharncliff model I had previously, they still cut well though, after sharpening of course!

Gary,

Awesome knife! Thanks for the pics and yeah, those edges look just as good as I hoped :)

I have been whittling with mine this week. Strong little knife.

Thanks again.

Kevin

Thanks Kevin, here are few more, shot tonight with some better lighting as I had to take some photos of a watch I put up forsale;
I'm liking this knife more more all the time, the coping blade is still one of my favourites and the main clip is pretty slick looking...
