Hi, I am new to this board and fairly new to slipjoints. I have a Calf Roper (Northfield in Choffee) and Cattle Rancher in Stag coming in from GEC. Thanks for this review, it really helped me make up my mind.

Welcome aboard bonusmarple! I can't see you not being happy with those two!

Thanks for the welcome!

I received the calf roper today. After a chance to look it over and test the edge all I have to say is F--k me, but this is a great knife. Blows the doors off of the Queen and is definitely a step up over Case. I love Case CV to death, but this knife is another level in fit and finish as well as factory edge. No rub that I can find on a stockman, nada. That is an achievement in its own right. I will give this knife a few months before a post anything else, but it is a keeper. I will definitely be buying more than the 2 I have on the way.

Glad you're happy with the knife. It's one of the knives that I use the most and one of the few knives that I have in duplicate. I look forward to hearing more about your experience with the knife when you post your update.

I'm trying to decide whether to get the Northfield or the Tidioute Calf Roper. I don't know a lot about GEC (I only have one), so I'm wondering if there's a big difference between the two.

I think that the differences are only cosmetic. The Northfield has a higher polish on the blades, swedges and slanted & pinched bolsters. I have one of each.

Thanks Supra. I like the long pulls, so I think I'll probably go for the Northfield. I'd love one of each, but I don't think "She Who Must Be Obeyed" would understand.
