So...should I, or shouldn't I?

Nice wood on that one r8shell, congrats on a cool knife. I vote no on the mod, only b/c I like the pen blade as is but if you have a need for a coping blade, then by all means. Tinkering is half the fun. :)

It's a nice pen blade, but I really do like to have a small straight edged blade for certain tasks. If a knife doesn't have one, then I will pair it with one that does. That's why my #09 Esquire gets carried so often. Of course with every new knife I buy, I think, "I could get by with just this one perfect knife" and the Pony Jack with its all-steel construction (including bolsters?) would be a great candidate for constant carry if it had a coping blade...

I'm going to carry it for a little while before I decide.

Sounds like a Pony that needs a mod... and soon! :) Unless of course you already have an EDC with coping blade you like better.
I subscribe to the theory of, "It's Yours - Make it So" :) But... so far, I've been able to resist the temptation to modify mine. Mostly because I've modded so many. The changes I've made to stock knives have all resulted in what I consider an improvement so I don't know how long I can hold out. ;)
Have a great day r8shell.

I just got this in the mail...

Yup, this is the same one that Terdl76 Terdl76 modded and shared the photos of not long ago...when I saw it, I told myself I needed this 😁 So I begged lol. Pony Jack is already a nice knife but that shield just puts the final touch for me.

Whoa! That looks great with a shield!

I sure am liking this one. Quite a bit more than I thought I would. Beautiful execution as always, and the scales are gorgeous with colors matching on each side. Grain a bit different, but that’s what makes it unique IMO. Nice grabs everyone. Here’s mine.

I was going back and forth on user vs safe queen status. I was pushed over the “user” edge, because I really just love this knife. It will make an excellent user. And also, the fact that the little dot that looks like a sharpie mark/eye dot is actually part of the wood. I think I’ll call him one eyed Jack ;):thumbsup:

I’d said to myself that I wasn’t going to jump on these. No sirree, it’s not for me, I don’t need one…… you know the drill.

But I ‘just happened’ to be browsing a certain site when a certain knife showed up, yeah…. I own a Pony Jack now.

I’ve also learned something about myself. There are very few knifes that are love at first sight for me. I don’t love the plain trim with no shield, and the equal-end jack configuration has never really called to me, and I really don’t get the mystique of all-steel construction. But the form factor is great, and it’s hard not to like the knife, even if right now it won’t be displacing the Bladeforums Barlow as my daily carry.
