GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

Those Abalone 2 blades were the ticket. If anyone has one of those I'd love to see pictures. I remember when they came out wanting one but thinking they were too expensive and abalone didn't make sense on a barlow. SILLY!

I'd love to see your examples of them!
Sorry Logan! I don't have the Abalone model. The only ones I have from the first run are the Red Camel Bone and the Pioneer Bone.

I'm going to be happy with either of the Bone handles or the Blackwood.
I'll still be okay with the Micarta, but it's my least favorite material for this knife.
If I'm early and I have to make a choice between all available, it's going to be agonizing.

I had been racking my brain on the very same subject, but I decided it is a waste of my time.

I will simply wait for the pictures and choose whatever I like the looks of most of the remaining options. It might go down to details as for instance I will be more prone to choosing blackwood if it is going to be square 'butted' as opposed to the rounded. The knife is not going anywhere, so there's no point in choosing the most 'sought after' cover material.

Agreed. If it were natural canvas it would have been my 1st choice. GEC's natural linen is kind of bland and boring looking to me.

hopefully I’ll have the choice of sawcut- but I’m not decided either. I have a spring green sawcut clip and a red sawcut sheep foot. Not sure if I’ll go with red or tan for the new one.

I don't like it as much as red sawcut but it can be quite striking...

I don't think so, a lot of wood on there to round down.

Looks like a square butt on AB to me.

Extra wood for shaping ;)
The sides will be chamfered and the but will be square, if you look at the bone ones they are the exact same shape, they’ll all be sanded down flat on the butt and sides to meet the liners and then sanded up by the bolsters to me there. The sides will stay at the angle they’re at. Just like the ironwood from this picture I borrowed without permission from @Buzzbait

How do you know? The liners are rounded and the wood hangs over quite a bit, leaving me to believe its extra for rounding. Otherwise I would think they would have square butted the liners and the wood would come right to the edge with nearly or no extra, and they would have chamfered the butt.

All speculation right now, I'm just glad to know I'll have to spend my money soon.
