GEC 85 EO Stag... This one will earn pocket time.

What do you guys think would you be happy with this stag or would you have sent it back?

I'd be tickled with that. That's a great example of stag. Downside of sending it back is that you don't know what you'll get back.

All these examples are just great! I'm really loving how thin GEC gets their stag covers. That's the way it should be done, IMO. No reason to leave 'em big and bulbous, if it's possible to take them down to a reasonable thickness.

I've been wanting to contribute to this thread too. My #85 EO arrived a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately, after a first sharpening (it arrived duller than a crowbar) I let it snap shut and the blade hits the spring -- nice dent in the middle of the cutting edge. So it is currently back at GEC. Once it's back and I'm happy that the problem has been genuinely fixed, I'll post photos -- lovely (burnt) stag on it, though not as slim as the OP's knife.

Mine came very dull too. I was surprised considering all the good things I hear about GEC, but of course a little time on the wicked edge fixed it, but the bevels aren't even on both sides and the tip was ground a bit thick so it's uneven as well. I don't mind it since I carry and use the knife. I like the size of this one a lot. It rides nicely in the pocket and the blade seems to have enough length for most tasks I encounter during the day.

It's really interesting to see all the differences in stag. My example above with natural stag doesn't look like the other natural stag knives in this thread, it looks white rather than orange and it's mostly smooth in texture. The only bit of orange mine has is from where I got a little mineral oil on it, other than that it's milky white. I probably won't buy more stag sight unseen anymore simply because of all the variation. I'm not sure if I got nice stag or not, it seems most people prefer the bark and grooves, but mine is smooth and rather lacking in texture. It's only my second knife in stag so I'm still not sure about what "good" stag is, but I like the design and feel of this one. It gets carried a couple times a week.

That "is" a good looking knife. I can see the attraction being fueled by the 2011 BF knife due to the basic similarities. I like mine, but the Stag on yours is GORGEOUS! :)
