GEC Beagles

First look at some of the jigging for these knives. GEC says these are pics of the jigging for the coyote

So do we know what color this is yet?

Sure wish G.E. would be a little more forthcoming with their jigged bone colors. Seems like lately all we see is "jigged bone" on the Production Lists even though they have the jigged bone and are in the process of making knives with it. I guess I don't understand...

Looking forward to seeing more of this.... The bone jigging looks pretty good so far. It'll be nice to see some finished/good pics of it!

I agree, they seem very vague about stating what scales are going to be and this puts me off from pre-ordering in case I wind up with a colour I can't stand or a shield I'm not keen on. The current proposals for acrylics leave me nauseated (Camo on a Traditional??) and I'm a fan of acrylics as they can mimic old school Cell. I also note that the Brown Snake scales on the recent Viper have still not been issued, an explanation to the customers would not be amiss.

There are folks ordering the knives before they even know what they look like. So there's no incentive for GEC to give more details.

In a couple days, the names and photos of the finished products will be up. Seeing knives in the manufacturing process is uncommon except from GEC. Likewise, ordering knives before they're finished (or even started) isn't common with other traditional manufacturers.

You are correct my friend and often times we forget that, as I did.

Thank you.

Looks like maybe Antique Yellow. But I suspect the reason they don't publish the bone color is because they don't know EXACTLY what it will turn out like until it is buffed for the first time. Look at all the shades of Autumn Gold, Spring Green, Antique Amber, etc. They cut their own bone and run it through their own dye process, and it is not an exact science. Who/where fed out the steers can make a significant difference in the bone density and cause colors to change. Many times it is different enough from the last run, that they will give the color a new name. But, I do wish they would just tell us generally a "yellow" or "amber" or some such when they asked us for orders.

That has almost a gray look to it. Really nice! Glad it doesn't have the animal etch on the blade.

Do we have any idea what embellishments the Northfield versions will have on the Beagles?

Wow that bone came out looking spectacular, glad I was wrong about the dark bone. GEC is spot on again.

Anyhow, these 'yotes are great and all but I gotta know when the Beagles are due! Right after the '98s? Do our resident dealers have any inside info?

Unfortunately this includes the scalpers and resellers :(.
But, I'm going to be buying a beagle as quick as I can.

Forgive my ignorance but what is the difference between these and a Viper?

The "Viper" is a 3 7/8" curved jack with a Wharncliffe blade. And the "Coyote" is a 2.81" dogleg with a Wharncliffe blade (an unusual pairing of the handle and blade type).

Super excited for these. Love the lines with the blade open, how the wharncliffe continues the curve of the dog leg. Square end jigged bone with a round bolster is just awesome with the hounds tooth. And the Osage looks fantastic on this pattern. http://greateasterncutlery.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/GEDC1990.jpg

the camo acrylic should be done soon.

FWIW I dont think that the final result is going to be square ended. I think that they just have not yet hit the sander for the last time in your photo.
