GEC Bullnose - Black or Orange?

Black is cool.

Jack Black that ones for you.

How did I miss this before??!!! Thanks a lot pal :)

(Meako sent me the knife! :) :) :) )

Orange or black was question for me too,and I got orange one(black lanyard, off course) but now enters OD micarta, you just can't get any rest :D

Ordered one in green linen micarta yesterday. I've always loved everyone's pictures of it in orange, but already own a Knives of Alaska Featherlight Hunter in orange G10 scales - and while it is one of my favorite knives, I for whatever reason, feel that one orange handled knife is enough.

Jerry stopped playing with knives when his brother chopped off his finger :D Everyone thinks my name is Jerry. Nope, but he lives on everyday through my speakers :)

I knew that was what your screen name meant. He lives on in my speakers as well. :listening_headphone

I have the green micarta bullnoses on order. I had the black one in the past, but used it for a GAW here. If I had to choose between the black and the orange right now, I would pick the orange because I haven't seen one in person, and because it would be easier to find if dropped in the woods.

I kinda lean toward black but as can be seen in this picture, it's pretty much "Even Stephen" when it comes right down to it.

I do have an SFO OD Green Canvas Micarta version or order from Collector Knives so, when it gets here, I'll be able to compare all three colors.

You know this picture almost looked like the green micarta bullnose is going to be in two different sizes. Could that be correct?
Optical illusion maybe?

I'd go with the black. I'm holding out for a wood handle Bullnose.

Isnt that pretty much a 73? I know the handle is thinner on the 73 and its not O1 steel but I dont see a huge difference. The cost to put wood on versus the synthetics makes me guess that the wood option wont happen, but what do I know? GEC does do some randomly cool things sometimes.

Pretty sure it's just optical illusion. If the closer knives looked smaller, then I'd think twice about it.

Based on blade shape only, it'd actually be a 72 like the Cody Jack. Granted, they've not made a single blade 72 slip joint with the bullnose blade profile.

I think the Bullnose handle shape is significantly different than the 72 and the 73 handle shapes. The Bullnose is clearly modeled after the Sodbuster pattern. If they did a run of Bullnose Farm and Field tools, I would definitely pick one or two up. I think it's a real possibility that GEC might do this although they might wait to do it in between 72/73 runs, or until the majority of the last runs of 72/73s and 71s are sold out.

The center knife in post #48 above is a #73 with a spey blade. It is a SFO Farmer Jack from Mike at Collector Knives. You can easily compare the #73 to the #71 in that picture.

Except for the fact that the #71 Bullnose has more of a drop point style blade, and that SFO #73 has more of a spey styled blade. Then there is the shape of the handle. If you look at the top part of the #71's handle, it is shaped significantly different than the #73 or the SFO #73 that you shared a photo of. While close to being the same pattern, in my eye they are significantly different (enough so, that I believe the #71 Bullnose is worthy of a wood handled limited edition).

I know all that "burnside". That's why I said it was a good photo to compare the #73 with a spey blade to the #71. That's what I was getting at with my post:

As to a #71 with wood covers, it may well be worth getting one if GEC comes out with them or if someone brings out an SFO with them.

Hey "Modoc Ed"... I wasn't trying to debate or argue with you about it. I was just comparing the differences between your SFO #73 and the #71 Bullnose. I shouldn't have started my comparison off with the word, "except" after quoting you. It made it look as if I were debating with your statement which was not my intentions. My bad.

I have thought many times that if I were ever able to do a SFO with GEC that the first pattern I would like to have made would be the #71 Bullnose in a variety of exotic wood covers.
