Don't know if this is a typo or what, but just to clarify that my "fairish offer" was not "after" Dennis' aggravation set in. No sense getting carried away; it is just a knife.
Every collector / user has different expectations and different requirements. One man's defect is another man's perfect and vice versa. I see it here and elsewhere every day. That is why initiating this type of thread before trying to resolve it offline is not advantageous. I am just not smart enough to keep my mouth shut and let 30 people pile on telling him that those are all factory defects and it needs to be sent back to the incompetent dealer (ok, I may have embellished a little, but it was about me). Dealers and makers are proud of their products and not only do not want anyone disappointed, but don't want them in the hands of someone that is not happy. A positive thread will nudge 5 people to try a product; a negative will have the opposite effect on 20 people (I don't have the science to prove that last statistic). I have sold knives as "near mint" that the buyer contacted me to tell me I was crazy for downgrading the knife; and I have had customers that were shocked an obviously defective knife was shipped out of the factory that once they got it back at the factory could not find an issue whatsoever and shipped it back out to another customer that was tickled pink. It's like Bull Durham, don't think - just pitch, don't think - just pitch.
You cannot figure out what will be satisfactory to one man over the other and there is no sense trying. Just check them, ship them, guarantee them, and if there is a problem, refund them. It's not personal, it's just stuff. And our goal is to make sure everyone is happy (without going bankrupt).
