I saw mention of this scale material in another thread. Can someone provide more info on this material? Specifically I'd like to see what it looks like and the models it may have been used on.

Thanks in advance...

Most recently ive seen it on the limited parts run knife that was available during the rendezvous open house on the 48 trapper, spey + muskrat. They appeared bone white at the time. I do not have any specific information regarding the material itself, sorry.

Are you speaking of the "Unicorn Ivory" just used on the #25 barlows, or referencing other knives/material?

I want to see a BUNCH more Ivory Acrylic from GEC. Rumor has it the texture looks very realistic. I can't wait to have one in hand.

Thank you very much, 3-1-1! I was wondering if it would be completely clear or have a slight pattern in the material like the old "French" ivory material. I love the ivory paper micarta they used on the BF Irish Congress, and haven't seen much of that on other patterns. Even better would be something like the old Westinghouse material, but that's not going to happen. I'd like to see them make a run of 13's with a checkered ivory colored scale.

I would definitely like to see more of the Unicorn Ivory acrylic. I'm still bummed about my reserve.

Well, unicorn ivory isn't exactly common!

Highly desired for it's anti-toxin properties, it's usually the province of the "upper crust" and quite expensive to acquire.

Weapons and knives hafted with it are invariably magical in nature (+1 bonus or better) and require some sort of magic-user to construct properly.

Check with your GM for specific rules on using unicorn ivory in your campaign.

Lacking Unicorn material could they substitute Narwhal? Hippo tooth? Walrus? Oosik?

Your message lets me think it could also be smoked under certain circumstances... or is that just the vapours? :D:D

Sadly, given the issues during production (which resulted in the much smaller than expected production numbers on this run), I doubt we'll see that material again. It does look nice, though.

Oh bummer....

I've been wanting a #15 clip point single blade with white ivory or bone scales.

A #6 Pemberton could work. Or a #77. Or a Barlow.

;)

What kind of issues?

What kind of issues?

This is second hand info from folks who were at the Rendezvous, but I think the main problem was that the material didn't stand up well to shaping/buffing, resulting in several knives (more than half of the number that were planned) that didn't make the cut (thus the scarcity of that particular model).

I really hope GEC finds some sort of durable synthetic ivory substitute. It's a shame this stuff didn't work out because it looks fantastic.

Some of the gun grip companies have got synthetic ivory figured out, I wonder if GEC has looked in that direction?
