Compared to my spyderco auto I'd say it opens at about 1/2 the force. My spyderco's open with so much force that if you don't have a good grip it's going to jump out of your hand. I think the gec auto has very appropriate opening force for the size of the knife and blade - I think it's just right... go figure.. most of gec's stuff is set up pretty well. The closing takes a bit of getting used to. When I close my spyderco it has some resistance to it. The closing resistance on the spyderco auto is due to the spring. The gec auto has zero resistance when closing.. not a concern, just pointing out a difference between traditional vs modern auto. I wish gec would do a regular production run of these under their own brand.
