GEC new #43 pattern, who’s excited?

If it’s any solace, i think I’ve got 10, plus a couple more that I’ve bought and sold, and just got my first pin.

I've got a handful of misc pins, anyone can just put "Sure do like pins" on the order notes - and we'll try and help with your bad luck....

I think im all good now. the northfield has the strongest pull and is beautiful. red is a little weak but i'll break er in..

Thanks for the photo ccsavage ccsavage ! Seeing those together, I have to say I prefer the drawn swedge of the Tidioute over the cut swedge of the Northfield, but the bolster marks on the Northfield (can't recall the name for those things) sure look nice.

The northfield is strikingly beautiful in person. If I hade to choose only one i wouldnt part with it. And I wasnt going to get one origionally.

Wow...That final antique green sure deviated far from the original 43 pattern diagram on the GEC website....Different color, different jigging, and a different shield. I like the way they turned out, but was not what I was expecting.

...or maybe I have that whole pattern diagram concept wrong...

I'm gonna try a cocobolo out and see whether it beats the micarta I looked at. Even if they both end up leaving, it will be fun to see them both in hand. I've never had a cocobolo handled knife, but I've been wanting to try one.

After a few days of handling the 43 I am actually very happy to report that the action on my Rust Red has improved considerably. Still on the lighter side but the laziness has disappeared and the snap at all three positions is excellent.

So if you are on the fence about getting one of these fine knives due to the initial reports, know that there could be a bit of a break-in period.

I put in a pretty detailed request knifeswapper knifeswapper ! I hope you like to read short essays ;)

Not a fan of the Northfield blade. I don't like the nail nick inside the swedge; it looks wrong to me, and it lessens the bite of the nick to have metal removed at the top of the nick. I wish I could get a Tidioute blade on the Northfield frame, as I do like the threaded bolster.

That’s my impression but I’m going to try it in hand to see if it is any better.

my first cocobolo to. don't think you'll regret it. Gunstock did have some to choose from at a killer price. Nail doesn't feel any different if that helps. Its a little longer and wider as well.
