GEC Pemberton: 1 blade or 2?

Another view single spear #55 with Liner-Lock on left, Pemberton on the right.

These pics were helpful as I just picked up a single bladed 55 LL wharncliffe. Seems they are about the same thickness. I do love my 55 (and 15), but am interested in a Pemby to better fit in my suit pants/slacks. That is why I was originally leaning towards the single bladed since I want a cozy fit, but all of my recent purchases have been single bladed. Kind of like the idea of having 2 blades on such a small knife. Great thread!

Gotta be more picky w my purchases now and I cannot make up my mind! Anyone grab one version and regret not going for the other? Leaning towards 2-blade

I don't own the Pemberton but if I did look to buy one it would be the single blade. i never use the little pen blade on my Peanut other than to clean my nails and I've gotten out of that habit. My Barlow is a single sheepfoot blade and I love it.

I know this is an odd request but can someone post a picture comparison between the pemberton and a case sbj? I only ask since the sbj is the only two bladed knife I own. Specifically a picture of the backside to show the difference in thickness and height. Thanks!

well, I cant help with a pic, but, I looked up the weight of the SBJ, and it is 62 grams. Thats 88% heavier than my single blade Pemby. So I would say your SBJ is almost twice as "big" as a single Pemby.

now would anybody please post the weight of a 2 blade Pemby? I will try not to ask again.. To me "size" has a lot to do with "weight"...

I am asking for the comparison w the sbj bc this knife would be my law office edc. If the 2 blade version is thinner than my sbj, 2 blades it'll be. Thanks for the info again though Jon!

I usually prefer multi-bladed knives over singles, so I went with the 2-blade Pemberton:

The black olive bone single called to me many times though, sweet looking knife!

It would possibly be better to ask you to take my word for it than to post the following poorly-lit pictures, but my non-scientific-yet-direct-visual-and-tactile observation is that the 2-blade Pemberton (at least in jigged Autumn Gold bone) is the slightest oonch thinner than a Case Swayback Jack:

Here's a couple pics for you, JerryIsAlive. I don't have a calipers or anything to accurately measure the thickness, but I laid them both on the table on their sides and then put a level across them - bubble was just a hair (or less) from being centered - in favor of the Pemberton being slightly thinner. The SBJ is taller as you can see from the second pic. Not the best pics, but should give you an idea of the dimensions anyway.

Jon, sorry I don't have a scale to get the weight for you.

I'm looking to get a single blade Pemberton myself. Going to be a while though, I was very close to getting one to go in my watchpocket when carrying my 73, but after suddenly out of no where purchasing the new #15 EK I cannot afford another knife for a good while. When I have the funds again though, a Pemberton it will be. Been wanting one for quite some time. Hopefully I'll still find a suitably nice single blade one by the time I have the money for it.

Looking at the backsprings it seems the pemberton pen is 1/32nd thinner stock than the primary. Whereas the Case appears to use same thickness for both blades, and same as Pemby primary stock.

Fwiw, the thinner pen stock is something typical of My Barlows, including GEC, Camillus, Russell, and Remington. Only my Boker has equal stock thickness on the pen and primary. I think thinner stock for the pen is a very elegant feature.

I love the look of the black olive bone. Just kind of wish it had the same plain shield as the other Tidoute Pembertons instead of the big ole tidoute shield

I have had both. A Tidioute in Black Olive Bone (single blade) and the Autumn Jigged Un-X-Ld (double blade).... I sold the Tidioute, as I MUCH prefer the two blade model. Better fit in my med to med large hand. If I want a knife as thin as the Tidioute, I might as well carry my peanut...which would be quite alright by me. To me, it kind of detracts from the simplicity of the small knife.

My 2 blade Pemberton is in my pocket at least 6 of the 7 days of the week...chaperoned of course by one of several others. Stout, strong, with distinction...the 2 blade Pemberton rocks! Here are the two side by side...I kept the bottom one.

I have a single blade pemberton that I love. It is a perfect backup knife. Once while staying in a hotel on business, I got my food back and realized they hadn't packed a fork...pemberton to the rescue....for opening mail, cutting twine...it's always there. I like the slimness of a single blade. Hey..lets be real here..I usually have a knife clipped to my waste and and another in my left front pocket... So I have other blades if I need them..
