GEC Rendezvous 2024 Announced

when it comes to the rendezvous, one of the prizes are the rendezvous knives and sfa knives. the earlier spot your spot in line, the better the loot you walk a way with. Bill tried to limit the flippers and scalpers by instituting a 2 knife per ticket rule. Way back in the old days before 2018, you can show up at a reasonable time 6am and every one was basically guaranteed something nice to go home with. Sadly, when they exploded in popularity, the bad apples ruined it. There are people who line up multiple times just to dump them on ebay, same for the folks who live very close. Knives on ebay before noon. A few years ago, even arriving on wednesday evening, I wouldve been the first in line. but these days, looks like its even crazier. I camped out the other year in 2022 because I had felt like it would likely be my last rendezvous. Although I believe in the saying "never say never", sadly never again might be truer than fiction.
Heading up for Friday, since I have to work most of the week. I'm just hoping to get a couple knives and tour the factory. Us knife folks are crazy.

vacation began on tuesday for me and i had the chance to drive over but seeing as folks were crazy enough to line up on monday and sleep like homeless people for knives, hard pass. Having camped out in 2022, the writing was already on the wall for me. You do you tho, good luck, hope you end up with something decent.

I did the camp out 1 time. Got there at 3am and there was already 50 guys ahead of me. It's something I can say I've done, but I don't plan on doing it again.

same 😂 I remember that year in 2022 when I drove over thursday morning and folks were sitting in that drizzle. I had arrived in town wednesday and at 7pm, id be have been 3rd but turned in at the creek after driving to the mcds. They said Jack, we will respect your number 10 spot, you have a limited amount of time to go get some things and come back. Went right back to the creek to get my boots, a jacket, drove to the dollar general to grab water, provisions a poncho. The person I felt bad for the most was, one of the earlier member's wife, she refused to use the porta potty and basically had to sit all night and wait for the store to open to use the facilities. Suppose Meatloaf was right, "I'd do anything for love, but I won't do that" The friday night camp into saturday was even crazier. Gary had chained smoked a box of cigars basically and was about to keep going. 🤢

It's a bit depressing & even repulsive...all that queuing up over days for the Special Factory/RV knives, kind of detracts from the meaning of it  Smells like profiteering not joy of knives but anyway...Maybe GEC should just say the knives will be released at some random time on the Friday, could be 7am could be 19.00 and it will be suddenly announced, that'll sharpen true minds !

I hope to attend some day.
I will go for the people and to check out everybody's knives.
I'll buy one knife just for the experience of buying from their store, I won't be too picky.

I have wanted to attend the Rendezvous for some time, and am tentatively shooting for next year. My purpose in going would be to see the mother ship, make new friends, share stories, soak up knowledge, and have a few laughs along the way. If there's a knife available for purchase great -- if not, well, that's fine, too. It is a bit disheartening to read reviews suggesting that the event is turning into a flipper magnet more than anything else. Hope that's not true. As always, I'll look forward to stories and photos posted here from those fortunate enough to attend this year. :)

What kind of regular knives do they typically have for sale in their store? Not the special stuff, just curious if I show up at some random time on Saturday if they will likely even have a knife left to sell me.

oh they always have the stuff from the regular previous runs in the shop. People dont normally use one of their ticket picks for those, unless they really missed it. for example when I went in 2022, after the sfas, I was able to get 86 stainless barlows and 77 barlows from the regular runs. The rendezvous knife usually doesnt speak to me. I think out of the 5 I attended, I only got one rendezvous knife cause back then I didnt know if id return, and the parts knives/sfas werent as abundant.

I'm only almost 30, and I'm already too old for camping out for days like a homeless person for a special knife. I'm hoping to get something, but a rendezvous knife isn't that important to me.

Yeah sleeping in a lawn chair for two days is not fun. I was lucky some one had an extra blanket cause it got cold friday night going into saturday. Bourbon can only do so much.
