GEC Shields

Here is one I would like to see. From an old Cattauragus that recently sold on ebay

No more shields on GEC stag knives. New policy. I have mixed emotions about it. However, I think I can understand it. Just a guess but I hazard a guess that their reject rate was relatively high when they tried to put shields on stag. Again, just a guess.

I’m sure it’s cuts down on flaws and cracks. I actually prefer the stag without a shield...why distract from those beautiful premium scales.

The no shield on stag policy is not that new (relative to GEC's existence anyway). I believe it was announced Dec 28, 2015.

The official explanation was on the GEC site, but I can't find it on there now.

Depends on the pattern. For me there's no getting away from it, inletting a pinned shield into Stag takes extra time, patience & skill. Thus it shows the cutler's art  To give up doing it undermines credibility:( And no, it's not a recent change by GEC but still a regrettable one.

Exactly, its a business decision...Time and money.
