GEC Stag Lockbacks ("Burnt" & "Red" Stag)

 That's the profile I was looking for, Rick. Nice looking scales too!

As mentioned, scales and their heft/thickness is definitely a personal taste. (And that's a good thing imho.)

Thanks, guys.

I've found that I prefer thin stag scales when I'm carrying the knife, and fat, hand-filling scales when I'm using it, so it's a trade off. I do agree that GEC's stag is about as good as you're likely to find on a modern production knife these days.

I concur, Ed. It's just about the perfect size and profile for an EDC clip point. Good blade-to-handle length ratio, too.

I noticed that mine had a touch of blade play, so I wrapped the bolster in leather, stuck it in a small vise and gave it juuust a hint of a squeeze: problem solved. It's tight as a drum now, but still snappy and smooth.

When opened, I haven't noticed any movement of the blade up or down or side to side. However, I will check it again later.

One thing I think is fair to say is that all three knives featured in this thread have very very good fit and finish. I've heard -- errrrrrrrrrr read -- on this forum that some think the fit and finish on the current GECs is superior to other production knives. Not having every brand of production knife made, I can't make that statement. However, the fit and finish of the three knives featured in this thread are definitely superior to the Schatt & Morgan Wharncliffe I received and sent back to the factory a week and a half ago.

EDIT: I just opened my knife again and I do detect a very very slight side to side movement of the blade. However, it is so slight that I don't see the need to try to correct it. I'd have never noticed it had I not read your post about it.

Gorgeous popcorn red stag and great swedging on the blade. I really think the threaded bolster adds a lot too. Very nice.

the stockman whitt was added for comparison to the lock. the whitt is 4&1/8 in.& 5/8 at 4.0 oz. rick thanks for the good pic of the red stag, if members do'nt post pics we have no idea how great some of these knives look. all distributor pics are dead as a brick. i did'nt even have any interest in red stag until i saw rick's good pic.

I said in a post above that now that I'd seen Dennis' Burnt Stag Lockback that I thought I'd order one in Burnt Stag too.

Change of plans!! GEC released this Mini Lockback Hunter with Burnt Orange Jig Bone handles yesterday. I saw it was available this morning and ordered it from my dealer.
