GEC's and ergonomics...which fits you best?

I'm pretty partial to my 76 Outlaw Jacks and the 66 Calf Roper and Serp Jack are nice as well. I'm really liking my 68 White Owl as well.

For all out in hand comfort the 23 is King. For all around in hand comfort plus EDC practicality, the 72,73, or 74 just can't be beat. Powderhorn runs a very close second though for my tastes.

My experience using different GEC models is rather small but I have to say that the #53 Cuban stockman is really comfortable to use. Long enough to fill my hand. The symmetry of the equal end pattern means the only hot spots might potentially come from whatever two blade I'm not using but I almost never encounter such a problem. The #48 single blade trapper was also nice to hold and use.

I have the #15 TC barlow, #68 Pony Jack, #85 EO SFO linerlock. Out of those three, the #85 is definitely the most comfortable and feels the most natural in my hand. I've briefly owned a #73 and a #74 and they were also very comfortable, but to my own surprise, the #83 might beat the 73/74 for ergonomics (I might have to reassess my opinion about that once I get my hands on a 73/74 again).

The #85 is probably one of the most comfortable slipjoint folders that I have ever handled from GEC so far. The lock-tab, Easy Open notch, and the shape/size of the handle combine together to help make it feel natural in my hand. The lock-tab goes between my first two fingers, and my ring finger rests in the EO notch. There is plenty of room for my fingers to change their grip without feeling uncomfortable. The natural feeling I get from this knife was lacking in the 2 blade jack version that I used to own. I think the lock-tab works in favor of the ergonomics by acting kind of like a reverse finger groove. In use, the tab goes completely unnoticed.

Seconded.

The two blade version is nice as well. Minimal hot spots.

The Conductor Whittler is nice since the coping blade doesn't have a sharp point plus the size of the clip blade is great when compare to the overall size of the knife.

Got to agree with all the #73 lovers out there,. mines a single blade.

Kris,.

I think the #66 Serpentine Jack is really great on ergonomics, for front pocket carry.

For backpocket carry I really like the #12 PowderhornJack. What a great pattern!!

I think my ranking is as follows:)
1) #71 Bullnose
2) #72 Lockback
3) #85 Bullet End
4) #15 Boys Knife
5) #76 Outlaw
There are a lot of other models that I EDC but the above was for just the 4 finger grip.

I like the 68 and 72 for comfort, but the 55 does lock into my hand pretty well - haven't' used it as much as the other 2 though :(

Think I'm in the minority here but I love the #61. It's a good length and the handle/blade ratio gives great control. I like the straight edge along the backspring and the shallow convex opposite it, I find it great for pull cuts and dexterity when whittling. It glides into my pocket beautifully and it is unusual enough to draw interest when I use it but has no large blade to raise eyebrows.
Definitely gets my no'1 vote.

I absolutely love the 2012 Trad Forum knife. It is just a little bit smaller than I want to carry, but I love it. I like Trappers. What can I say?

I rotate between my one #48 and several #53/#54's for daily carry. I've been carrying the #48 for most of July.

1) #76 Outlaw Jack
2) #57 Geppetto Whittler

My two favorites

Another vote for the #73. I think the #74 could edge it out if they would offer it in a single bladed version (besides the cotton sampler). This is from patterns I have used or at least handled. I also have a feeling the #47 would be pretty comfy since I like the Swayback pattern. I just haven't had a chance to get my hands on one yet.

Most of them actually!

But, 55 Houndstooth and Conductor equal and the very different but excellent 73 single blade is close, so is the 85 and 68 W.O. 92 Eureka...you see nearly all of them:D

Multi bladed knife would be the 53, cant beat the extra frame length for comfort.

Single blade is the 55 houndstooth. It slips into the hand perfectly and doubt a second blade would change that. No surprise its at the top.

I find the #54 most comfortable in hand. The #79 is a close second. I really want to try out one of the #55's...

Hi,

I only have a #25 and a #15. I really love the #15 Boy's Knife. The size and shape fit me just fine. I am working up the courage to get something bigger. I really could use a Pioneer Lockback.
