GEC's and ergonomics...which fits you best?

I have about 20 GEC's and I feel like I'm cheating on the rest if I pick a favorite.
But...my #76 Outlaw in coco is probably my favorite in-hand.
Silver medal goes to my #62 Easy pocket congress in stag...a whittlin' champ!
And I have several serialized GEC's but I've really never paid attention because they all get used and the SN gets hidden among patina and scratches.
I have never liked the Eureka pattern, but it is growing on me and also looks very comfy.

I've owned and handled only a few GEC patterns, and among them the #66 jack is the one that fits my hand better.
I'd like to put my hands on a #73 though, and see how it handles (although it's probably a bit too big for my pocket carry).

:cool:

Since my only GEC is a #76, I'd say that it fits me best. But I am most interested in what you guyses are saying, as I'm always collecting data for my next GEC.

I've owned a slew of GEC folders over the years, loved most, bout the only one that really didn't work was the very short 3" frames, just too small for me, well done and beautiful mind you! but too small for me. Today I received an excellent example of GEC's stag, they do pick some of the finest I think, plus I think it's my first with a single blade from them, it's the #55 Hounds tooth wharncliff blade and it fits the hand like it was made for it, while I believe it is the same contoured frame and size as the Gepetto Whittler, which I also use to have, but this one with a single blade you get to actually grip it as it was intended, and that I think makes it one of the nicer fitting folders they've made so far, at least the one's I've owned/handled to date.

Two thumbs up on this folder and a great thank you to Mike Latham of Collector Knives.net aka knifeswapper on the forum as this was sent from his web site and arrived today, I encourage others to give the Hounds Tooth a close look see when they can! I know they make a liner locking version, but...again just for me, that tab sticking up breaks the flow of the handle frame and I didn't want to even give that a try, may work well for others, but for me, I like the cleaner flowing look of the handle's shape. :)

edited to add a couple quick photos of the #55 Hounds Tooth in burnt stag

I just thought I would total up all the votes, including all 1st and 2nd place mentions.
A few posters listed 4, 5, or 6 knives, but I only counted the first 2.
Where several frame numbers are the same frame, I counted them together.
Most people mentioned that single blade knives feel better than multi-bladed ones.

72/73/74 = 12
55/56/57 = 11
85 = 9
53/54 = 7
76 = 6
42 = 5
12 = 4
66 = 4
48 = 3
33 = 2
61/62 = 2
68 = 2
79 = 2
15 = 1
92 = 1

Interesting: note the lack of correlation between comfort and popularity!

Also, notice the lack of correlation between ergonomics and size.

The top five patterns are 3.8, 3.5, 3.9, 4.1 and 3.5 inches in length.

I have to weigh in with my #15 Barlow and my #56 Dogleg. I really liked the #66 as well.

Since the arrival of my #15 Barlow back in March all others don't see to much pocket time :o

Think I'm in the minority here but I love the #61. It's a good length and the handle/blade ratio gives great control. I like the straight edge along the backspring and the shallow convex opposite it, I find it great for pull cuts and dexterity when whittling. It glides into my pocket beautifully and it is unusual enough to draw interest when I use it but has no large blade to raise eyebrows.
Definitely gets my no'1 vote.

You might be in the minority, but I'm there with you. The 61/62 fits my style of use and it's my number 1 choice for comfort.
