Gec's best!!!

Richstag, thats a beautiful knife, and i really dig the contrast of the shiny grind against the dark patina. Very beautiful to my eyes. Now dont take this the wrong way, im not asking you HOW to sharpen a knife in general, i just wanted to know if you use a guided system, because thats a very smooth consistent grind?

It may seem a bit premature, as these two have been in my possession only about four hours, but I can already say that the 66 frame is my favorite of the five I have owned (the others were 65, 68, 72, and 73).

Blood red jigged bone 66 moose and Rotten banana bone 66 jack:

The pulls on both knives are in the range that I find comfortable, the frame width and length is good for carry and for use, and the bone handles are some of the most attractive I have owned from any knife maker.

I do not post often but had to stop in to share the very best GEC I own to date. I received the 531212 in canvas micarta today and after minutes of inspection, it went straight into my pocket. I have several GEC's and other customs but this one will definitely see lots of future EDC usage .. starting today! Although it is bigger (length & weight) than what I usually carry, I find the blade configuration very useful. Just look at them, begging to be put to use! When I said the very best, I mean perfect pull (medium-ish) on both blades, flush at open/close position (no half stops), crisp snaps, sharp, perfect & tacky scales, and not a single glimpse of light between liners and backsprings! The only thing I have to pick on is some glue on center pin on mark side got left behind and clip in ever so slightly off center when closed .. extremely minor issue on both counts.

I think that would be a wise decision. I too have been tempted by that one. In the pictures I have seen, the blood red of the bone shows through more with that jigging pattern than it does on the moose I have.

Ed, I like the blood red bone on your calf roper better than my 73, but I always thought the 73's were nice too :)

I have a few patterns, mostly jacks and trappers. The ones I like the most are the 73 single and double blades, and the 72 series lockbacks. Although, my favorite GEC is my Northfield 23 single blade. I need to send it in to GEC to get the pull lessened, along with my double blade 23.

That's what my 23's look like, I got them directly from Ryan Daniels. Real lookers, although not as vibrant a red in the scales.

Real bear traps too!

Yeah, the 73's I have (gave two to friends) are really vibrant deep red. Beartraps is right IMO. I still hold them as one of my favorites.

I rate most of them to be 'the right knives' but I think Scatt & Morgan have a better F & F plus the QC right now as far as I can tell by all of mine.!* Then it would
be GEC and the 3rd one would be my Hen & Roosters ~~ some of the others have backed up a bit on there F & F here lately and my last 8 buys have been S & M
plus 1 H & Rooster in Gunstock that I just had to have and it is perfect.! Wish they were all as good as it is ~~ it went from box to my pocket and has been there
2 weeks now.!*

Anybody got any GEC patterns with "Dead Skunk" acrylic scales? Ever since we heard Loudon Wainwright's song, it's been one of our favorites. I love the colors, just haven't been able to get my hands on one yet.

Here is one that's got my engine revving! 74 pattern, same as the forum knife, but with saber-ground blades, and cocobola handles. Just out, and on its way to me as we type!

Thanks Doug! Can't wait to get my fingerprints on it!

Chris, here is a dead skunk Northfield which has a lot more skunk (black) than dead (red).
