So AWHILE back BF member geegee asked me to do some mods on his bk11 just like the modded bk10 that he got of mine (some of you may remember the clip point mod im talking about). I said sure, itll be fun, and he sent me his bk11. Now insert deer season and the rest of the crazyness that surrounds this time of the year and it took me a LONG time to get it done. Well its nearly there, and damn i am freaking proud thus far. So here are some teaser pics, to wet your whistle. The final pics should be up tomorrow evening. Enjoy
The original bk10, and my inspiration
Now for geegees blade. Here is how i received it, already reshaped and ready to go
after stripper comes sandpaper. 100 then 220, thenm 400, then finally 1000
after 1000 grit
decided to reshape the choil and guard area
Now for the gun blue
In order to get the stringy looking etch, i applied the blue as if the blade was a convex sabre
Very cool looking right? But it aint gonna be left like that, so into the bleach it goes (btw if your gonna try this, please to it in a well ventilated area since it creates deadly chlorine gas
within 10 seconds you can see the corrosion begin
after 30 minutes, the cool pattern emerges (remember this is a PERMANENT patina)
After clean up with a towel, then 100 and 220 grit sandpaper. After sanding I reapply blue to the whole knife then resand. It makes the etches darker and the blade brighter. Looks sexy right?
Next its time for the homemade OD micarta. They are setting as we speak. (no pics of the making process since it took a half a dozen tries and i became impatient, but if you wanna know how just ask) They will be secured with epoxy and brass corby bolts.
Finished product pics tomorrow! I hope your liking it geegee
