General Camp Knife?

Id say go for something from stomper, if custom Isn't the way you want to go, an RC-4 will do you fine. Good sheath, durable blade coating and a classic carbon steel (1095) nothing to loose Aside from the money in your pocket.:D

The Ranger Afghan is a nice heavy duty camp knife for under $100. It has micarta handles and 1/4" thick flat ground 5160 steel. It is a bit heavy, but very rugged. The blade is about 5" long.

It comes with a Cordura belt sheath that has a storage pouch for a multi-tool or other things.

It's a tough knife.

It does have a military appearance, but it is more of a tool than a weapon.

Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it. I think I'm going to contact John (Stomper) about making a custom for me. Seeing as how it's down to the Campanion and the Bravo-1, I'm going to try and combine the two haha. Essentially it's going to be a Bravo-1 shape with the specs of a Campanion. 5" blade of O1 or 1095, 1/4" thick. Should be awesome! What do you guys think?

I think that's a very smart idea and know you will love the result. My only recommendation though is to go with 3/16" instead of 1/4" ! 3/16" is plenty on a knife that size !!!;)

Dude definatly go 3/16. Its plenty thick.

Bravo1 is a great knife. Also look into a Laconico HWK+, its the knife in my avatar. Go to blade for me. 4.25in blade of O1 steel. High flat grind, and a very sharp convex edge. Well under 200.00, its a great choice.

Lots of good picks listed here. I might add the Buck 119 to the list. So far nobody has suggested a Scottish Broad sword.:D YET;)

my DP knives Scandi camp master is my goto bush blade..4 inch cutting edge full scandi grind, full tang, spear point blade, contoured micarta handles...1095 steel, it's a sweet little number

I go along with Pitdogs logic on this. Check out several of our local bladesmiths work here at the forums and I'm sure that you will find a knife that you will like and it's unlikely that you will spend as much as the $200.00 limit that you've set for yourself.

What's your guys' opinion on the Campanion being 1/4" thick? That seems mighty hefty. Did it ever feel too heavy or awkward to really work with?

I think that is a great blade for the size but still awkward slicing bread, HARD to peel an apple or potato well with, a little heavy for spreading stuff. Good for chopping though.

I love the shape of the Bravo-1; it's my favorite knife so far. I'm going to try one without a thumb-ramp, but visually, I love the shape of the original (although recently I've discovered the ramp doesn't affect me in the grips I use most often). Good luck getting it made and I look forward to seeing the finished product!

What? No love for Nick Allen (NWA)? He makes, for my money, the best 5" blade I've ever handled with his forum knife. Makes other sizes too, all equally awesome. I'd also take a hard look at a Laconico HWK, or maybe if you're looking for something bigger, a Fallkniven A1.

Pitdog, I've said it before, but I'll say it again: that Stomper Hiker+ is a good looking knife. JK nailed the handle on that one. A man would be hard pressed to find a nicer camp knife.

Just sayin'...

I think anyone of these would do for ya. From camp to kitchen. The five knives in a line are last weeks work order for me. I just sent them to Brian Andrews at Off the map outfitters today. 3 CUBS, 1 Pathfinder, and 1 Tyson.

The bottom one with the orange handle is my newest every day carry.
