This must be what it felt like when this forum was first started and there were like 2 people here. This time last year I'd log in and find so many new posts here that I just stopped checking the snark thread since I couldn't keep up. The whole forum was a lot more active too . Guess the 10 and 24 haven't gotten people as riled up as with the tweeners and 'chax .

it always gets quiet during The Gathering weekends too.

A sense of silence or quietness can be sweet too. I just enjoyed this in silence

So this morning I decided I would look up some words I always have trouble with, like when to use the words.. there, they're, or their, or lose or loose... sense or since, and some others I never seem to spell correctly...

Well the wife comes out the room getting ready for work and ask what I was doing and I told her.... she started laughing at me and says, "baby you're 30 it might be too late for that but I didn't marry you for the brains anyway"

I have no idea how to take that. That cant be a compliment...But im offended and delighted....mostly offended.....

Got me thinking about the difference in knowledge and education for the last few hours......

Im no genius and never claimed to be but I never thought of myself as a dummy either... I graduated in the top 10 of my class, a year early with honors...... It did kind of help that there was only 50 people in my class lmao and the year I skipped I did it at a alternative school for troubled kids. But my military asvab scores got me into any MOS I wanted and I later was offered a spot at westpoint. Which I refused to get married (what a coincidence now huh) but I was never extremely book smart, I was just always very able at finding the answer or singling out the impossibilities. I think logically, but not educationally if you get what I mean...

I would never consider a person dumb because they couldn't spell a word correctly and/or use proper grammar, There is NO telling what that person knows and could teach even the most educated of men. I may have quit college first year, so what...I seen the world, fought and partied everywhere and I experienced more in 5 years than most men in 20 and would never change that even if I could, especially not for some damn piece of paper... I was completely happy with my education and the way I think about things until It was challenged this morning.... end rant lmao j/k......smiles..........

I was cursed with a photographic memory. And a genius level intellect when tested at school and college.

So, I became a construction worker, because more school sounded boring as hell. Get out, see the world, have some fun, party my ass off.

Then, wife and kids.

The brain is a perishable item, the longer you go without using it, the mushier it gets.

I try to keep mine active, I like math, so, I do a lot of mental math, watch movies in my head, and try to remember all the really cool historical facts I know.

Off to take the kids to school. Be back on later.

Yea mine is getting pretty mushy... I think its time to start doing some type of mental exercises... years ago there was a handheld video game thing my wife had with 2 screens, touchscreens if I remember correctly...that did mental exercises on a handheld Nintendo thingy...not sure what it was called but it said brain age or brain wave or something like that when you turned it on... I don't play video games but that was cool it tested mental function and recorded daily progress.I think ill google around to look for something similar on the PC...

bout to get my kids off to school as well, take it easy!

Good luck to you, the pursuit of knowledge for it's own sake is admirable in my book.

I know a guy that can't read or write, that's close to my age. Or, at least, when I saw him years ago he couldn't. Yet, he could take a car apart blindfolded, and put it back together again. I've never considered anyone dumb. We all have our own unique gifts.

Just the fact that you tried to understand an area where you knew you had difficulty puts you above about 75% of the populous. Lumosity.com is a great resource if you want some brain food. I think it's well worth it but I am 33 and still need to stop and picture the word "bed" to get my b's and d's correct.
