I've had 440A blades perform very well and S35VN that sucked, it's all in the heat treat. Most budget knives get budget steel but what they really suffer from is budget heat treatment. The reason these steels get such various performance reviews is because they get such varied heat treatments, one guy hates it, another loves it ;same brand ,same model, different batch, different heat treatment. I'm glad to hear some of the manufacturers that use these steels are getting consistent good heat treatment of these steels so the average user can see what the steel can accomplish.
