GENERAL OUTDOOR/CAMPING USE FOLDER, WHICH ONE?

CS Voyager (AUS 8) or CS Twistmaster (Carbon V) can be had in a variety of sizes and configurations: clip, tanto, drop point (the Twistmaster). All make good camp knives for a reasonable price. By the way, Cold Steel has a bargain-priced 4.5" drop point hunter in its new list. Carbon V, epoxy coated.

I use an Opinel #8 Stainless as my general camping knife. Whilst the carbon steel versions do take a noticably better edge, I like the convenience and ease of maintenance of the SS version. The thin stock, good belly and nice clip point make for a very versatile knife.

The fact that it cost $16 Australian makes me not too concerned about its fate either. I would recommend an Opinel to anyone as a great, simple, unpretentions working knife.

Cheers,
Tim

BACKUP21,
The Gerber Applegate is designed strictly as combat folder and it's not the best choice as general utility knife.
My first choice would be one of these folders:
BENCHMADE AFCK or Model 710 Axis Lock;
SPYDERCO Military or Starmate;
CRKT M16-04;
Katz Knives Special Forces with 3 ¾ inch blade.
Among SOGs I would like JetEdge2 considerably more for general utility.

How about the BM 720, the best Benchmade ever? A great all around utility piece.

I choose my folder to be the most knife I'm comfortable with in my pocket. My pockets aren't any bigger when I'm in the woods, so my knife isn't any bigger either. (Currently a medium Browning Barracuda with the clip removed. It's just under 4" closed, 3" of blade and weighs under 2 ounces.)
Like Hugo, if I anticipate the need for more knife I'll have a Puukko or Mora.
It's just what works for me.

Discontinued large model Cold Steel Kraton handled , San Mai folder. Great grip and superb clip blade.

I gotta say that for a good in-expensive folder a spyderco endura is about your best bet. For a little more you could get a Bm 720, great little knife.

The outdoor Edge Magna is superior to both of the knives you mentioned. And take a Cold Steel Bushman with you too.

Swiss Army Knife (SAK) Rucksack model or similar locking blade model from Victorinox with a saw and an awl. The saw can cut down larger branches and be used to notch wood -- and the awl can be used to drill holes in wood, and repair stuff.

I have used SAKs for years outdoors and they have never failed me. Why carry a single blade with you when you can carry a multi-use tool like a SAK without adding weight?

A Leatherman, SOG, SAK, or Gerber Multitool is another great option -- provided it has the saw and the awl. These usually have great pliers on them too, for grabbing hot stuff out of the campfire.

Considering the abuse a camping knife takes (mine, anyway), the CRKT M16Z and Outdoor Edge Magna Zytel, both around $40, make a lot of sense. Many of the well-meaning suggestions above would be too precious (for me) to take camping. Agree that the AF would not be the answer.
