General use outdoor fixed blade

what are the specs on the Swamp rat RMD?

Similar to the S1 and SRK but thinner and an inch shorter.

The RMD is my go-to in this size at the moment.

Prefer it over the S1 and SRK.

2nd & 3rd from bottom.

well, after watching the "demolition" video on cold steel's website, i think the SRk is looking really nice, and definately cheaper than the S1. I like the sheath that comes with it, too.

It is a good blade for the money.

Let me know if you want to watch the videos that I did on modifying the SRK handle.

ESEE-4 hands down!!!
The S1 is a good blade, but theres something about not being able to see the tang that gets me, especially if you gotta give it a good whack close to the handle while battoning. Theres nothing like seeing the metal all the way back, on top of that, the ESEE comes with one awesome sheath which once you add it to the full price, a hell of a deal. Not too long ago I put a nice convex edge on mine with my belt sander. Ever since then it's ridiculous how long it can hold a razor edge after wood processing.

just my .02

I thought the handle design was a bit weird too. When I actually held it i was surprised at the comfort and quality of the blade at the price paid.

Glad it worked for you. I sold my RC blades but did grind an RC-3 into another totally different knife.

in the destruction tests that noss4 does on youtube and his website knifetests.com, is the Cold steel SRK Carbon V the same as the regular SRK?

So the new steel is better? I'm hoping? judging by the differences in results of noss4's stuff and the destruction tests by cold steel, i would be led to believe so.

My goof, it looks like my BK-9 was 16.4oz, + whatever the sheath weighed. I thought I remembered it being 14oz.

The BK-7 is very nice, but is about as far from a chopper as you will get. It would baton well, however.

The Ratmandu is currently my favorite knife in that size. I just looked at a Nimravus a few days ago and was not impressed. An SRK in Aus8 for that close to the price of the Ratmandu or S1 is a joke - no offense meant, it may be a perfectly fine knife (it's not in my opinion based on things I've seen posted over the years), but there is no way it's in the same class as the RMD or the S1.

Based on how impressed I am with the F1 I just got, the S1 will be the next mid-size knife I buy. So IMO get the S1 or the Ratmandu. You can get a nice kydex sheath with a tek lok for $40 from azwelke for the Rat. Either one is better quality than the SRK.
