Generosity and the Collateral Products of Searching for Old Knives!

Jack--that engraving is just begging for you to find a press and some ink to go with it!

Yeah, I slightly know some people who could do that for me, though it might take a while to organise

The tips are different karats of gold. You draw lines with them on a stone, along with the gold you are testing. Then compare how they react with an acid.

Only the very tips are gold, but it makes a funky cool pendant. :D

Wow R8shell gr8 find never encountered one of those. I often wondered if there was a way to test the different grades of gold.
- Like Spock would say FASCINATING.

I came across a large Butchers Steel by G Wostenholm - a welcome partner for my Large Twin Henckels Steel.....

I also got this nice Old Carving Set - The Silver Hall Marks tell me it was manufactured in 1902, in Sheffield, and I think I have the Maker right but want to make sure......I just think that this is a great set - just superb colouring to the Stag...

That's a beautiful carving set Duncan, really nice find :)

Even if I don't find a jewel of a pocketknife when browsing an antique shop, I'll often come home with something small for a couple bucks anyway.

I like old tins. I started gathering small tins to hold my miniature knives, and then family members noticed & started giving them to me. Have plenty now.

Sometimes old matches catch my eye as well.

Fantastic carving set, Duncan!! The stag is marvelous and would make for a grand evening to carve with such a set:thumbup: Great Wostenholm Butchers Steel as well!!

Here's a little kit Jack Black found and sent to me. :) Very nice tools, and it comes in a neat old wooden box with a sliding latch, which is pretty cool in and of itself. Thank you, Jack!

I stopped by a yard sale on the way to the grocery store today, and couldn't help buying a box of nice drawing pencils, a level that looks like it's meant to clamp on to something, and a glass jar of tiny copper washers and stuff. All for a dollar, what was I to do? :D

Thank you, Jack.

Glad it arrived r8shell, and that you got some interesting finds as well  I've not been able to get out 'hunting' for a few weeks, and may have over-compensated when I was out today! I think I can hear the kitchen table creaking from the next room! :D

Neat finds, r8shell.

The Disston pocket level can be clamped to a wooden rule.

Thanks. I thought it clamped on to some machine that needed to be level, but the ruler makes sense, and looks useful.

I look forward to seeing your latest haul. :)

Ok...Wakey wakey Thread!

Here are a few items I wanted to put up here, I think I have put up my Carving sets, I always am keeping am eye out for Stag sets etc - I just cant help it!

Heres a set that I took up, the handle on the fork seems lighter, but I did like the Sleek style to the knife- Beautiful Old carbon steel, made by Dickinson, Sheffield the Blade has "The Eldorado " in a Banner - And i kinda like the Pommels and Ferrules on them.......I am no expert, I think this set may be from the 1920's- 1930"s - not too sure cant to off......

A very nice steel from M.Hunter & Son......

A neat old and well used knife by Lockwood Bros - the styling of the knife suggests to me this knife could be from the very early 1900's, and I wouldn't raise an eyebrow if it were to be very late 1800's, Iron Butt cap, lovely old Stag - Carbon to die for - these old girls sharpen to be Razors!

A whole bunch of Stag, I got the lot all together- I wanted the Cap lifter and Corkscrew- as they are Stag and made by Butler - the Stag Carving set is fairly ordinary, and made by Viners - BUT STAG! and good thick Stag at that!

A very cool Schlits Beer, Milwaukee Corkscrew that I bought when I was in Valley city with Mr. Paul Hilborn, ...Paul his great friend Jeff and myself went into a local Antique store - mmmmm to have gone in there with a lot of money.... :-)

Here is a wee Fish Knife and Spoon set by Humphries Sheffield, nice set, not the best, but not the worst...I bought a lovely Fish Knife a while agao -cany find it - must be in my office at work, will post that here whenever I find it.

I love this older stuff!

Items photgraphed on New Zealand Rimu - a wonderful and now fully protected Native to New Zealand, you can get what they call "Pacific Rimu" - which is nice, but nothing like the beautifull New Zealand Rimu, I will fully restore this desk one day -probably the same day when I do all the other things that I have to do that will take about a year to complete per job lol.:D

It's lovely to see all of these treasures Duncan, all very special

Thank you Jack matey. I really can't help it - these Old Sheffields just fascinate me so much- Sue just shakes her head- " Oh another knife" she will say with juuuust a little sarcastic tone :).

When she finally comes round and realises just how neat these old pieces are - I should have enough to fill a Museum :D
