Gentleman Jim...Thoughts.

I just bent the detent ball arm slightly and it worked like a charm. It was flush with the liner. The blade favors the lock side now, but the detent is rock solid now. Thanks again.

Awesome! Glad it worked. Blade centering is likely taken too seriously anyway.

If you follow the Emerson instructions for blade centering, you should have it center in a jiffy. It has to do with the order in which the body screws are tightened.

I remember when Ernest said that there was no reason to offer new Emerson knife designs.
We're glad he changed his mind. :D

Get a Tiger.

I got this one from a man that I am proud to call my brother on The USN. He got it from Ernie himself at a lotto awhile back. I somehow managed to talk him out of it lol. I was looking for an El Bandito at the time and my bud said hey look I got the next best thing and we worked a great deal out!!!

Officers Match,

I love both models dearly they are so close, but so different really. Ernie designed the GJ and its more like a dagger that a gambler would carry on a showboat in the west to me anyway. Its just so sleek and fast in the hand its uncanny. As for the El Bandito if memory serves me correctly Ernie's son in law designed that one!!! It is a wonderful little blade it fits my hand like it was made for it!! Anx the Spydie hole to me just makes it in my opinion. I know Ernie made himself a legend using the thumb disk on his knives for years, but its cool to see that he is open try different ways to open knives. Well he did use a cutout on the original ES1, but the SEALS and other military personnel requested the disk. So I guess thats why it stuck. Hope this helped guys!!!

It does and I do believe the hole, such as on my CQC-10, does make it easier to "wave" as there is nothing to hold the fabric back from the blade. I am seriously thinking about making a GJim or EB my first real Emerson Custom. Really wish I could hold them both. I may have to buy both production models first to make a confident decision as to which it is.

Get a Tiger.

Working on that. I want the Tiger with satin blade and they're all sold out. Maybe someone will sell one in the marketplace.

I truly think you would like the El Bandito best!! Its a wonderful little knife buddy!!! It and the Gentleman Jim are so close together I would just get the one that had the features you like best man!! I saw a El Bandito for sale a day or two ago I can look it up for you and help you find it you wish buddy! I am a true Emerson fan and it makes me happy to help other Emerson brothers find their grails!

I love my CQC-10 so much because of the thumb hole. That was definitely the inspiration behind the hole in the Bandito blade. A friend of mine is an avid hunter and uses his 10 for dressing. He had tried his 7A before on a deer but the thumb disk got in the way. He now solely uses his 10 for this reasoning, and he's got the safety orange handles for out in the woods.

Glad you all like it!

Here's a couple more pictures of the 2.

The only bad thing I have to say about the El Bandito is in regards pointy butt end of the handle. It has scraped up a knuckle or 2 a couple times when reaching for my keys. It is a cool knife!
