So it's summer, I have weddings, birthdays, and parties to go to. I've been carrying knives since I was about 15. All my knives are a bit too tactical or flashy to be present at these events. (paramilitary 2, kershaw blur s30v, Ontario utilitac 2, to name a few)

So I was thinking either a traditional style knife (preferably a single blade like the case sodbuster, which looks a bit on the large side unfortunately. ) or a knife with stainless or wood handles. Is prefer the knife to be around 50, but as long as it's under 80 I'll be okay with it.

Since you already have a Kershaw, how about another - a Leek? I think one of those would "dress up" nicely. Also, think the same about an Opinel (no. 8) or a Case Slimline Trapper.

Have you thought about posting this in the Traditionals sub-forum?

These are some suggestions off the top of my head...

Moki Fish Owl (small) - small, lightweight, non-threatening.
Victorinox Cadet in Alox
Case Mini Copperlock
Spyderco G10 Dragonfly 2

For a nice, slim, and useful traditional slipjoint that is great looking, try the Buck 302 Solitaire in brass and rosewood.

Also, you might try the Spyderco Cat as it is about the same size as the Chaparral, and expensive gentleman's folder.

Boker Plus Urban Trapper with Cocobolo. Left in the pocket the clip mostly looks like a pen, taken out it's a slim, handsome little folder.

Benchmade 940-1. The carbon fiber handle is very classy with the softly stonewashed blade. Also very, very light at 2.4oz.
Benchmade 586. Black G10 scales with clear aluminum bolster makes it look quite classy, and the 2.9" blade is short enough to keep the sheeple happy. It is heavier, but still conceals well.
Benchmade 484 or 484-1 Nakamura. 3" blade, and the -1 has carbon fiber handles with a fancy blue anodized ring around the pivot to give it a classy look.
ZT 0808. All titanium, so it doesn't look tacti-cool, especially if you have it anodized.

Boker plus makes quite a few very attractive models to fit your criteria.

All great choices loonybin but not sure any of them can be had for under $80. :(

Buck 501, slim, good warranty, not the latest steel but good. Nice looking knife and not all that pricey.

If you're looking for something a little different, maybe check out a stainless steel Spyderco Kiwi 3. Thin, compact, yet offers a full four finger grip. No pocket clip and although it has a Spydie hole, it's really a two-hand opener. No lock either (slipjoint) but doesn't need one, imo. I think it's one of those designs you'll either love or hate, but if you dig it, you should be able to find one online NIB for around $25ish.

Good luck, OP! :)

I got my Sage 1 on the Exchange here for $80. It's a full four finger grip for me, but still pretty gentlemanly with the blade shape and CF scales. I feel it pushes the upper limits of gentlemanliness though (is that a word??).

I've been looking into the Chaparral. It's a little smaller and thinner than the Sage 1. It was specifically designed as an office knife/gentleman's folder. Pretty sure you could get that for under $80 if you look in the right places.

Yeah if you can swing it or find one for a lower price, I absolutely recommend the Chaparral. Probably my favorite gent's knife.

EDIT: Also if you hate the way the Kiwi3 looks you should look at the Spyderco Grasshopper.

Victorinox Alox Bantam or Secretary, Case Trapper, Cold Steel Lucky, GEC Barlow, or Buck Prince. Any of those would make great dress knives.

I personally carry a Vic Secretary Alox when dressed up.

I have and do carry my PM2 when wearing a suit. But now I've decided that my Benchmade 890 Torrent is a good gentleman's knife. It has polished and sculpted G10 scales and a deep carry clip.

But if you really want a low priced small folder, try the CRKT Delegate.
