Did a quick search and came up with little on the topic. If someone knows of a link that I missed we can let this thread die out.

What do you consider a "gentlemen's folder?" What do you carry for those special events?

I usually carry my 48 improved trapper in African Blackwood, but here lately I have considerd getting a smaller special event carry.

Nice trapper, Brett, a special event carry for me means a special knife: either with sentimental value or special covers. Here are a few of mine.

Limited edition Kane Cutlery Swayback Jack (sentimental value)

Gerber Silver Knight (sentimental value)

Early '90s pearl Bulldog Serpentine Trapper (terrific MOP covers)

Of all my pocket knives, the Sardinian resolza has taken over the dress occasion spot. It makes a nice lightweight black tie event knife. Or the downtown knife.

A great idea for a thread, Brett

Already some fantastic examples! I like this MOP Ulster Knife Co.

And for Black Tie events

I like to pair my Empire Wharncliffe in ebony with this old Lord Elgin

I occasionally carry my I.XL George Wostenholm pearl whittler as a gentlemens folder. It's sitting next to my 1910 Longines pocket watch that I carry on my days off. I still need to get a proper chain for it but the basic silver chain is working fine.

I also carry my Ken coats easy open most days, and usually a leatherman ps4 or micra for any other needs.
Ken's slight hollow grind makes a very thin and sharp edge, that is held very well in his Ats-34.

Great thread idea Brett, and some beautiful dress knives here

Alsdorf MOP equal end. The first of this pattern with a spearpoint.

I like MOP or ivory on a dress knife, and think these three are absolutely beautiful. I'm lucky to have quite a few examples myself, but I bought this knife within an hour of finding out I'd become a grandfather, and it's a favourite dressing-up knife :)

Another favourite is this Albert Oates Senator :)

A special knife that was a gift from a friend and also handy for special events as they often include beverages...

You have to love Joel's work! Love those scales.

Who is the maker on that one? I really like the shape. Almost a tuxedo, almost an equal end. Pretty neat anyway.

My dress carry is the same as everyday.

Eventually though I'd like to get a tuxedo or similar and put some ivory covers on. I have the Imperial version, but I've decided upgrading that is going to be putting lipstick on a pig. You can paint a pumpkin black, that don't make it a bowling ball.

(that #48 improved trapper in African Blackwood is stunning!)

Let's keep it Traditional folks. I've edited the title to include Traditional so those popping in from the recent posts page will notice.
