my basement just gave out. in a matter of 10 minutes i have 3 inches of water and rising. I was out of rack space for my parrafined wood so i have like 30 burls on the ground. all my machines are about 5 ft high so they will be ok but i was in the process of moving and all my papers/designs are getting it bad.The only reason im not down there right now is my wife didnt seem to understand the nature of the situation and went to some yoga crap class--leaving me to babysit. Ill have to make minute salvage runs while my son is distracted.-----marekz:foot:

That really sucks, hope you can save some of it?
Good to hear your machines will be OK?

Hang in there. -

well the water is still coming in. seriously its got to be around 6+ inches. i got all the wood up and whatever else i could salvage. i really just threw stuff on all the tables. now my normally messy shop is really a mess. i got to figure out how to get the water out---maybe a dry vac or a sump pump. I just got power out to my barn shop and in the process of putting in the breakers and wiring it up. man i cant wait to get in there. I was going to leave my wood in the basement because it eas the most consistant place i had but i guess i still can after the repairs and drying. luckily all the wood had wax on them. the papers are lost. thanks for your kindness---marekz

Sorry to hear that Marek. Hope things work out for you, although I do not think you are out of the rain situaton yet. Good luck to you.

get the wet/dry vac going . We go thru this every year . You are getting it bad though , and I hope all works out well . I know it all to well . Like someone said for the basement , get a sump pump but I'll bet there are none available anywhere .

Man, that stinks bro. I'm lucky we're pretty high up. My thoghts are with you. Being from south Louisianna, I'm farmiliar with this drill.

As soon as possible, get a small submersible pump and hook it to a garden hose. Pump the water out as far from the house as possible....at least 20 feet. The pumps can be found at Home Depot and such places. You may need to pump for days, as the water may continue to come in.
After the storms pass ( I hear it has been raining for two weeks there), pump out all the water you can, use the wet/dry vac to suck up the rest, and run a blower fan for several weeks. Open as many vents, doors, or windows.

Best of luck.
Stacy

Sorry to hear you are going through this. I think Stacy's advice is right on.

You have my sympathy. I wish So. Cal could get water like that. It would solve alot of problems, but probably make just as many. Good luck sir.

Bummer man! Thought y'all were in a drought?

Like said, get a pump going ASAP.

Raining like crazy here too....

I feel for you. I moved three weeks before I deployed to Iraq last year and we got a bad line of storms thru NE Arkansas just after unloadning the truck. We had stored all of the non-essentials in the basement (ie. all of my wife's boxes of books and manuals). The storm caused the basement to leak a bit and overnight the city sewage backed up into the basement. We ended up with about 6" total.

Needless to say, all of my wife's childhood momentos and every single one of her aircarft maintenance manuals were destroyed. Almost $3000 in books alone were destroyed. Thank God for USAA insurance.

I feel your pain and wish you the very best of luck. Flooded basements suck.

i got a sump pump. the water almost wet vacable. i hope that the rain will stop/. Its been raining for about 2 weeks now--with heavy downpours daily. I get occasional wet spots down there and i was going to put in a french drain,,but last night it went from COMPLETELY DRY TO FLOODED IN MINUTES. i actually saw water coming outr of a secret hole/crack. the crack is on the wll thats under my cemented outside porch. i thought the problem was in a better place. i got some engineering to do.... Man from completely dry ( 2 weeks of rain ) to flooded in minutes ( the water must have been sitting somewhere out there)---when the leavy breaks---thanks yall--marekz

yall i stopped watching the news a long time ago. i mean really it got me down and i just stopped. Today just now, i turned on the newz--holy crap GEORGIA is flooded--its not just my basement.--i guess i oughta check in with da news more often-lol--marekz

Ya Marek , Georgia got hit bad . Hope everything is ok . As Stacy said , get fans down there to circulate the air .

I've been out here at my Oregon shop and warehouse for two months cutting and stabilizing wood, but will be back in Acworth in 10 days or so..hope my house is not now a Allatoona Lake dock!!!

Couple weeks ago the kids checked on my house and found 3" of water in the garage as the drain must have plugged. Unfortunately a box of stabilized scale sets fell of the shelf into the water...good test for them.

Hope all turns out well, Marek...

Marek ---- Man, I'm so sorry for your problems. Believe me when I say, I know what you're going thru . WEhen hurrican Floyd came thru here, we had about 10 ft. of flood water. Many, many homes were loss. My thoughts & best wishes are with you.
