Georgia is flooding- hel:p

yes its hard but my situation is minor compared to some of the news im hearing. i am going to follow Stacy's advice ( as i always do,-cause hes the man). the water level has gone down alot. i know have maybe 1/2 of the basement floor with about 3 inches the rest is just really damp and begining to smell mildewy. Im gonna keep 3-4 fans on all the time for a week or so. I jsut ordered some anchor seal and i guess ill spray it over the parrafined burls just to make sure they will be ok. When all the water is gone ill be able to go through all the folders and reciepts so i can salvage atleast a few. I know im gonna have a few truckloads of stuff to take to the dump this weekend. The burls that were on the ground were mostly cherry, i had a nice dry piece of crotch black walnut, and a buch of spalted looking pecan that i was gonna experiment with. anyway thank yall-- prays out to all the families that really got it bad--thanks marekz

Praying for all of you up there where it is wet. We can't seem to get any rain down here at all. We got a half inch Sunday and that has been it for several weeks.

Glad it is holding up a bit. Keep fans running for a month or more. It takes a long time for all the moisture to dry up, but only a day or two for mold to cover everything.

I agree with "Mete". When our basement flooded (three times total in one year), I poured bleach into a sprayer and coated all of the effected areas. It smells horrible, but the fans should ventilate and disperse the smell. If mold starts, it's a pain in the butt to get rid of and causes all kinds of health issue for the entire house.

thanks again yall. so far since last night -after the sump pump stopped--i have filled 14 25 gallon wet vacs. 80% of the wqater is out but the musty smell is strong----must get bleach and fans---thanks-marekz

After you get all the water out you can go to a boat / marine supply place and get hanging moisture absorbers. They hang them in boats when drydocking for the winter. They'll help a little to clear the musty smell and such. As for the wood, send it all to me, I have a nice dry basement :D

Wear a respirator when you spray the bleach. I know desperate times call for desperate measures but the chlorine produces free radicals that aint too healthy. A lot of scientists think it damages DNA. I'd keep my kids from breathing it.

Godspeed in getting back to normal.

I,like you marek, try never to watch the news, nothing but negative these days, however I was in the doc.office yesterday and man some parts of Georgia have really gotten it bad.Hope all goes well for you and your family.

God bless,Keith
