Gerber Exchange-A-Blade pocket knive: the same but made from titanium?

Hello. The Gerber Exchange-A-Blade pocket knive is made from steel (so it is heavy for me). Can you recommend me blade pocket knife of the same construction which will be made from Titanium? It should be knife with a removable blade as on Gerber (but not a regular small flat knife); I am living in Canada where carrying of any self defense-like items is prohibited or there are difficulties with understanding of their legality.
Thank you in advance!

A) Carrying knives in Canada is no big deal.

B) If you want something lighter maybe a CIA letter opener will suit. Any knife that folds will be heavier than fixed and ditto for one that has the mechanism to replace the blade.

Cant believe its too heavy. :-)
I'm sure there are one or two titanium versions out there. I remember seeing a titanium one in Kickstarter and some people said there was already a similar one in the market.

Its weight is 65 grams. Titanium will be twice lighter. It is very important for me. For decrease of weight of my EDC bag, it is with 12 Titanium d-rings and ovals.

Why would you even consider an Exchange-A-Blade for self defense?

I am considering EAB as a pocket knife which will be an absolutely legal in Canada as urban EDC knife .

Yes. Otherwise it's pretty neat. :-(

Could you get the Gerber and just drill a few big holes into it?

Does it have to use disposable blades ? Cause otherwise the crkt peck ( the Gerber ridge is basically the same thing but is no longer available in a plain edge , and I know that one of them coppied the other ) is pretty lightweight, you could also check out the buck 283 Nano bantam for 12$ US or 425 mini buck for 15$ US( you can add a titanium suspension clip if you need the clip ) they're about as lightweight as you can get and I love them both:thumbup:

<Does it have to use disposable blades?> it should not be similar with a knife. This is comment about it:
<<My understanding of Canadian, specifically Ontario, knife laws is that you can't carry anything that doesn't look like a knife and the EAB may fit into heat category. >>

I use an EAB sometimes at work. It is a wonderful pocket utility blade but it does have it's limits. What about a CRKT KISS?

It is knife. The only EAB-like item is applicable. Ok. It is seems to be that only my Gerber EAB is the choice.

The TPT might work after all. Glue a bump on the blade and you can push the blade out of the front pretty fast. Might even attach a proper thumbstud.

You can use a pen for self defense, self-defense doesn't mean carrying a tactical blade necessarily. The human body is very squishy, you can take it down/injure with a bic pen in the right places (naked or no armor though). If the attacker is wearing tacticool high school chemistry goggles to protect themselves or any type of armor, that's when the self defense game needs to be stepped up, but for general purposes anything hard/pokey would do, like those tactical pens. I'd almost rather carry that instead of a knife, since injuring someone with a knife in any situation would land you in a heap of legal mess.

I'm not thinking a tactical blade. I am just concerned about the lack of decent ergos with the EAB's handle.

If the weight and ethos are the problem and no folding utility knives offer better egos then a proper knife must be in order.
And for that I'd once again suggest the Nano bantam.
Or the spyderco bug.

Oh it's a knife, make no mistake about it. That is exactly what is is marketed and sold as. As far as self defense, a small 2.5 ounce box cutter is not really going to help you much, especially if you have no training to use it. Lots of people like to argue that point, but there are way too many variables for a definitive answer. If you want something for self defense, but yourself a machined Aluminum or Titanium pen, get a small but super bright flashlight or something else. I wouldn't rely on a mediocre mini box cutter to save my life, it's a utility knife and has virtually nothing to hang onto and would probably be as uncomforable as holding a cactus.
