Gerber going upmarket !!!

I just noticed that the website first linked is in Australia. That makes the knife cost ~$71 in US Dollars...

Cabelas has some higher end steels in their gerbers. they do the same thing with Buck too...

after a quick browse-through, i think out of all the Gerbers i would take the Longbow model...

Gerber used to be an upmarket company back in the 60's and 70's and every once in a while since. I don't care what steel they use now their designs suck. They were my favorite company way back when but I don't think they have made a good design since the Airframe and it was a long time prior to that since thay made any others.

An EZ out with 440A or an EZ out with Super duper space age best friggin steel in the whole wide world is still an EZ out to me. I could care less.

The cost of a knife size piece of steel of virtually any type does not really affect the cost of the knife that much. The quality of the construction and attention to detail, fit and finish are what costs money.

I am not saying that I don't care what steel is in my knife but I am saying if it is not a decent design then I don't care what steel is in it.

Gerber, SOG, Cold Steel, Al Mar, and a few others are real disappointing to me over the last 15 to 20 years.
