Gerber Harsey Ranger

Yes, Taiwan is the new high quality producer. Good tools from there too.

Some people are much more disappointed in American quality makers sourcing out of China. The specific knives have been good, tho, to be expected when a reputation is on the line.

Taiwan is rapidly disappearing in the rearview mirror for quantity, however.

I would be happy to pay higher prices on foreign made knives if it meant that we would have more canadian(and US and mexico because of nafta) knife companies and more north american manufacturing. I would also like to see more cheap knives use cheaper but still good carbon steels (with coatings to slow rust) instead of crappy stainless.

One of the best newer gerbers (that and the Applegate are probably their only good ones IMHO). I gave one to a friend and it got him into knives. I definately recomend it as a first folder, I'd easily buy one for 30$.

Sounds like you're happy with the purchase. Glad to hear that. And I appreciate hearing what you think of the knife.

How was the bow hunting? Do any good?

Hey knarfeng, thanks for asking. Went out to a local spot but it seemed to be pretty sparse. I was going for rabbit but seems they got the best of me, anyways, nothing like being out in the woods shooting my Martin hunter recurve and carying my new knife (just sliced up some branch, didn't get a chance to use it much). I say, a knife and U'r bow go hand in hand, just like a gun and knife.

Thanks All:thumbup:

I think the quality of Taiwanese knives, generally, is excellent.

The CRKT folders (and yes - we all know about the blade steel issues) -
generally have great fit and finish. The Timberlines as well. And now
the Benchmade Red line, and Ontario Rat 1.

I'd still rather own an American or Japanese knife, but I don't shy away
from the Made in Taiwan label like I once used to.

As for knives made in China, well...
they still have a long way to go.

You still did better than I. I spent the afternoon digging up brush with a pick. (I live on the edge of a canyon. Have to keep the brush back from the property line as a fire precaution.) Nothing on which to use my knife. The worst day hunting is better than any day digging out brush in clay soil that's mixed with large rocks.

regards..
