German lockbacks

You should try one out if you have a chance. I was very pleasantly surprised. Nice quality considering the price and it disappears in your pocket. It doesn't even terrify the sheeple.

When I was a kid, the Mercator knives were always advertised in the back of magazines as "black cat knives" and sold for about $4.
Back then I assumed they were junk knives and never paid much attention to them.

That was back in the late 1960's early 1970's.

When I got older and read about the history of these knives, I bought an Otter Messer made Mercator.
There are a few videos out there showing how Otter makes them.

Also, for anyone interested, Otter makes the Hubertus Springer knives too.

This is a less common pattern from Puma. Carried it a lot back in the 80's.

Wow, I have that exact same model. Got it in the late '70s IIRC. Developed a little lateral blade play though.

Is there anyone on earth that has NOT had a Mercator K55 at one time or another?
I haven't. They've been going up in price and I'm just not motivated to buy one when I've already got similar knives with better materials. Some of them sure are pretty, though.

Oh, lol I got that on a whim because of the interesting handle.
It's a K55K copy made in Japan and the tang stamp says "Mankeen"
The build quality is........questionable.
I do have a real K55K with a broken spring that I think will look cool implanted into that handle.

A few more:

I liked the look of it and was wondering if it was some k55k variant.

Thats a Parker made 2nd generation Bulldog from 1993, #149B, one of 100 made with green bone and etched blade.
Thanks! What sort of quality are they I have heard Parkers were pretty hit or miss.
