Hey There Texas Sportsman Thanks for the welcome. I live outside of Fredericksburg. Where abouts are you at?

The building I'm just finishing up is 8 miles outside of Bandera towards Kerrville. When it's fully functional, we may need to have a TX meet up and BBQ! I'd love to get rid of some of the feral pigs...

Well that's good to hear! I'm pretty sure your on 16 then....I spent all my summers and some hunting seasons outside of Bandera and learned to swim in the Medina.

Hello, I'm Blaine. I retired from the Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer (ship operator) in 2014 and now have begun a second career as a Mechanical Engineer doing construction design for Naval Facilities Engineering Command Mid-Atlantic (NAVFAC MIDLANT) working on Marine Corps projects. I've operated equipment (up to Aircraft Carrier size) but it's really been interesting to be on the design end.

I stumbled upon Fiddleback Forge way back when I was in Italy and have been hooked ever since. I've dabbled in hiking and camping along the way, but the second career comes with no leave time, so it'll be a while until I can stockpile enough leave hours to take another long trip on the AT.

Well, well... Life has taken a detour and we now are living in temporary housing in Kansas City while we wait to close on our new abode. I've never lived more than 30 miles from salt water until now. Man- I can't get over the open spaces and spread out city. Anyhow, I'm digging it now, but it's been awful hot since we arrived on Wednesday. Lots to figure out and hopefully find another interesting job.

Congrats on the move, and new house!

I loved Kansas City last year when I went for the Knifemakers Guild show (where I passed a jury and became a full voting member). We'll be there again at the end of September. I hope to see you there B.

Andy I think Hannah should pick out some cool color combos that the females would like and FB produce a knife each week geared to the ladies. This would be really cool.

I'm trying to get her to pick out some of the scraps and come up with cool things with them. She's really into DIY projects, so I'm trying to teach her about real machines. What she can do with them that she can't even imagine yet.

BUT, this is a good idea.

Andy,
I know how you feel. My youngest is heading to high school, but still is my best bud. But my eldest is heading to college. I barely see him. Between his job, his friends, and his teenage sleep schedule, I seem to grab minutes here and there. I was lucky to get him on vacation with me and we went sailing for two days - two days on the water completely uninterrupted with cell phones or other distractions. Great times.

Of course, I'm raising two boys, so it's a bit different. But seeing them grow up and away is hard, regardless.

That sounds fun. I think my daughters would throw me overboard once I'd had a beer or 4 and turn the boat toward the closest cell tower...

I fixed your knife this am. Looks great again! No worries.

OK I'm a "newbie" ...I never do get used to saying that. But you have to start somewhere. As they say around my neck of the woods "I got here as soon as I could ". I'm a 5th generation Texan from a saddle making family, and have great appreciation for good steel in the form of a great blade. And that's why I'm here I suppose. Everything I've learned about fiddleback forge speaks of quality and integrity.. And Beauty...
I'm thinking "This is going to be a Very Expensive Ride "

Welcome aboard! I'd love to see some saddle making pics.

Thanks for the welcome. I actually do have some pictures of my family's saddle and harness making business. It was in business from 1850 to about 1962 in San Antonio Texas

You are correct we're about 2 mile outside of Medina on 16. Our deer lease has river front access to the Medina and my wife and I got married standing in it!. The acreage we own and are building on is just around the corner on 2828, up out of the flood plain. Also some good hunting.

Hope this is the right thread. I'm Bob and I live 1/2 hour south of the crap-hole St.Louis. I have three boys 12, 14, 16 years old and a wife of 21 years and a 6 month old golden retriever.

I've work for Hydromat Inc (26 years), we build Rotary Transfer machines. This is where I started after college into their Swiss/German apprenticeship program and received my journeyman certificate. Now I'm the Application Sales Manager. I evaluate and quote all of the parts and pre-engineer the machining process for our sales team and our engineering dept.

I love the outdoors, and love knives especialy Fiddlebacks!!! One day I will start making my own. Right now we are focusing on planning our move to the Alabama coast, hopefully sometime next year.

Hey Bob, really glad you found your way over to this forum. You're a great addition! Glad we have another place to share great info and pass around some fun toys.

it's been way above normal here in MO. Email me when you get settled in and I'll get you some info on decent places to hit the woods here.

thanks brother, not sure how great of an addition I'll be, but do like it here.

Thought I'd make an addition here and share two of my future sharks. They already have some Fiddlebacks, Surls, OKTs (and Spydercos) with their names on them.

From my post on her unboxing her Surls Big Palmer, this is my 5 yr old daughter knife nut.

This is my 6 yr old daughter who is a camera hound. Yes, she was mowing and did a little pose when she got to claim some of Mom's Pepsi.

Does she mow that field, or just play on the tractor? The key here bud is getting them to do the mowing while you sit on the porch and drink sweet tea (or bourbon) and smoke a fine cigar!

Oh she did the mowing there. No play time allowed here. ;-) We'll get her graduated to the tractor when she weighs enough to keep that one running.

Great pics Jerry! :thumbup::)

Thanks Sir!

Warrior,
Great post. Here I was thinking, man what a good dude. A family man, teaching his kids responsibility and even buying his daughter her own good quality knife.
Then I saw the Pepsi. Now I question all your decisions in life :p:p

Seriously though - thanks for posting this.

Preston
