Get together at the CPK compound on November 12th, the day after the cutting competition.

I was secretly hoping for a Ladies class so I wouldn’t have to get beat by Jo too :)

So what’s everyone planning to run it with? I already know of one K18 and I’m planning on using an HDFK.

A competition chopper would be very competitive as would a K-18. Actually, a K-18 would be incredibly competitive. An HDFK is going to struggle in the 2x4 chop, hanging rope cut, and pretty much all of the cuts when compared to a race knife or a competition sword. You are welcome to run whatever you would like. It is a run what you brung. Bring a chainsaw, I don't care.

(Jo says not to bring a chainsaw, she doesn't want you tearing up the cut bench)

But a chainsaw is not going to be competitive in the straw cut or the tomatoes or hanging rope etc.

Y'all are welcome to borrow my K20 or the shop K18.

I sold the K20 as being a weapon not a gardening tool and not to use it to chop wood. But I've been beating the crap out of mine and despite having been taking down to .016 at the edge before sharpening, it's holding up just fine, including some wonky cuts. It is designed as a meat eating weapon, but.. you know... Delta 3V

So y'all are welcome to borrow that as well

First prize in the chop is your choice of $500 cash or a D2 skinner

I’m offering up a D2 skinner I don’t have, at the competition I won’t be attending, for a cool $3600 to the first person to send me cash, and that way you don’t need to compete to be a winner*.

*by ‘winner’ what is meant is ‘loser’, literally and figuratively

F YES

I'm so freaking excited!!!!!!!!

Don’t bother.
Sounds like PolRoger PolRoger is going to show up chewing gunpowder coated crack rocks and he’s not leaving without the top prize.

I do like the idea of running through a BladesSports course for the first time but I'm not so sure how keen I'll be without some "practice time" at the various cut stations (obstacles) first? Also, add in the pressure of a running timed clock count and precious seconds ticking off and I can just imagine some big "whiff-outs" happening.

hanging rope cut
horizontal rope cut
2x4 wood cut.
horizontal wood dowl cut
rolling tennis and golf balls cut
plastic straw cut
paper tube cut
paper sheet cut
pool noodle cut
water bottles cut
I'm probably missing some...

I don't have a BladeSports style comp knife. I'm thinking about bringing my Light Chopper?

I think the light chopper would do good

A light chopper would do the job. Actually very competitive at all of the cuts except the wood chop (as the name implies, it is a little light), and even there it does okay. A light chopper won a competition at one of the ABS events. I think that Jerry Fisk was not amused.

Edit: The biggest issue you may have is that the light chopper is not designed as a heavy duty beater tool. In the hands of an experienced cutter like Dan Keffeler it does really well, but when I run one hard, I tend to bend the primaries because my form is not very good and it is a thin knife.

I am gonna borrow the shop K18
There’s a D2 skinner on the line.
I’d up my game if I were you.
I’m thinking K18 strongside. K20 weakside.
Incorporate some spins and kicks in case there are style points.
And make sure you have the right entrance music. Could be critical.
I’ve never been to a bladesports race. You may want to run some of this past Jo.
Good luck!

Edited to add: If Ben is running in the race you should go with a leotard.
