Does anyone else, beside, me make sure you have TWO of everything of your good gear for your wife/girlfriend/mate?

I make sure I have two of my favorite guns, knives, lights, some tools, some clothes, bags... everything that I think is best and important, just in case the SHTF, we can each have one of what I've decided is the best gear. Just so we're equally equipped and I don't leave her lacking.

I have a Glock 20 for me, a Glock 17 for her.
A C.S. Trailmaster Carbon V convex edge for me, a newer coated one for her.
Lights, folders, magazines, multi-tool, clothes, rain gear...

I'd hate to tell her, "Here, take this, it's not as good as the one I'm carrying, but it's all I have for you."

So, when I decide on what's "the best" to have, I make sure I get two.

Well damn, I will date you for a new Glck 17 buddy, I will even spoon with ya :)

I try to do the same, but my girl will tell ya, shes a little dependent on me for certian things, so there is no need to buy her certian things she will never use. I have tried to get her to learn to do it herself, but she prefers not to. She is a prissy school teacher, but loves the outdoors, just not getting dirty.

Two of everything.....

My wife has a apyderco ladybug a Vic classic and a mora...That;s 3 more knives than she wants I'm sure but she does admit they are usefull... as for me If I like something I get a bcak up and than a backup for the backup...

I'm a bit of an idiot because my pack is usually about 4x heavier than it could be... because I take about 4 of every item with me! I emptied my pack the other day with my room mate sitting near me and he laughed at me for a solid 30 minutes. I pulled out 4 firesteels, 3 bic lighters, 3 compasses, 4 knives, 2 multitools, 2 small FAKs, 2 small PSKs, 3 bundles of 50' of paracord, etc, etc. Whats funny is that if I lost my pack, even with all my redundancy, I'd still be screwed!!!

This is why I opt for a CamelBak. It forces me to separate gear into a smaller butt pack or something. That way, when/if I lose one, I am still alright...

A little off topic, but similarly related. If my fiancé and I were on a backpacking trip and something happened to me, she wouldn't know what to do with a knife, paracord, metal match or anything else. This is the year I am going to teach her the things she doesn't think she needs to know. She loves camping, hunting and hiking. She is more than willing to do any dirty work. So my question is, do any of your wives, girlfriends or significant others have the skills and know how??? Any good pics of them doing survival stuff? Or better yet how about the how about mneedham posting some pics of his daughters building a fire??
Hopefully amy and I are camping this weekend so I will get some photos!! It is supposed to be in the lower 40's and raining so we will see.

Good point.

I think the idea of getting extra gear for someone who doesn't have enough interest to acquire their own is questionable. Your time would be well spent training your partner in the use of what you have, before you go spending money acquiring stuff they won't know how to use.

You just need one more layer of redundancy in your pockets. Sounds like an excuse to buy more gear. I too can relate to the overly heavy pack though. I was packing up for a day hike last weekend and after about an hour of carefully packing my backpack she shook her head and said "Ya know you don't have to take all of your 'survival gear' with you." Ummmm yes I do. That's why I bought it.

Concerning the OP, my wife took an interest in building a survival kit last year. Using me as a referance, she put together a pretty good little kit. However, I'm still struggling to get her in the woods and try it all out. She loves the outdoors, but has no interest in hiking and camping hasn't been an option lately because we have livestock to take care of morning and night. Hopefully I'll get her out for an afternoon once the weather warms up.

it's possible that my GF might carry more redundant gear than I do at times! luckily for me I found one that while amused at my attempts at some of the more challenging skills (bow drill) she is more than capable of the basics herself. it works out well. more than one of my friends has referred to me as their "survival kit" which is fine as those are the people who wouldn't end up all that far from help anyway, but are fun to take along.

Glad to know I am just about normal!

I buy backpack, bought wife a nice big handbag she wanted. I carry survival stuff for bush ... she carriers survival stuff for city. She does have her own pink Fenix light, Pink Izula and her own camping stuff.

When I bring out the bigger knives, she just looks at me as if I am mad so her tools tend to be more fit for her skill and size. Not inferior but different.

For my sons, I ordered them ATAK's when I heard wife was pregnant with each one. One is 14 and other one is 11 ....... knives are given when they show maturity to use a top notch tool and only then. Till then they are on CR Aviater.

I buy an extra one of everything my wife likes and/or says she might use, and set it aside for her. Some of that stuff gets used very regularly (like "her" Fenix light), some not so much (like "her" knives).

I'm a city boy, she grew up in the country with a dad who insisted *any* child of his (son or daughter) should be able to take care of themselves, so I'm not worried about *me* having to teach *her* how to use tools. Heh.

I buy more than one in the case of non knife related gear. I don't believe that my girlfriend can, or really wants to learn how to properly use a knife. Of course, that will be changing soon enough

Being a country girl and outdoors person, my wife has her own idea on what she wants and has her own favorites. She has her own guns and knives. She likes revolvers when it comes to handguns and has her own deer rifle and .22

When I met my wife--she owned no Knives or Guns

She has a drawer full of knives now--and I'm loving it!!

Single at the moment so I guess the answer is no heh. I don't think id have doubles of everything. Just would focus on having stuff that she would use.
