Ghetto Bushwacker CE

I prefer INFI uncoated, but often can't affored the satin models. Once the job is done, I no longer worry about scratching the coating. A few passes on the Scotchbrite wheel, and they look good again. The only Busse I ever had to rust was the Sarsquatch CE. That's why I sanded it to a satin finish. Once the decarb layer was sanded off, no more problems. All mine are users, so I don't worry about perfection, although I appreciate the beauty of a nice unused LE as much as anyone.

That one is not up to your usual standards..

Better send it to me for proper disposal....

(love your work Bro)

You're right, William. I suppose I could sand it some more and smooth out those rough places, but it wouldn't slash any better, so I think I'll just keep my ghetto bushwacker. :D

I knew it wouldn't take long for people to start stripping off the paint. :D

There were several ahead of me. Usually, I would strip it first and then convex it. But I was waiting on a warm enough day to use the stripper. Christmas was warm here, but I was busy with.....Christmas! It looked pretty funky with that high convex grind and the coating still on it.

I know. :D

I was speaking in general. :)

WOW that looks REALLY good!

I think the dimples make it look nice and aged.

I'm thinking of giving my game warden the satin treatment...

Thanks so much, Amy. You could just slip me the LE next time and save me all this work. I won't tell. Call it a senior citizen special. ;)

It was warm enough today to try using my paint stripper on the BWM. So, Third World Grindshop, in all its trailer trash glory, was busy today.

Even though it was over 60F, the paint was hard to remove. I actually had to just sand it off in places on the blade. Even my Scotchbrite wheels had touble removing it. The "dent" I could see even with the paint on shows up here.

Eventually, I was able to get most all of the coating off. To do a true satin finish, I'd end up with a 1/8" thick Bushwacker. Man, that would be fast in the hand. But today, I settled on a ghetto satin competition finish. To heck with a few dimples and imperfections!

A little mineral oil on the scales, and here she is. Ready to whack things!

Maybe one day I'll take her on down for a smoother finish.

She looks real good HD!

Sweet and sassy

Interesting stuff as ever Vic...I had been wondering how much adding a ghetto satin finish to the BWM would reduce the thickness and weight...I thought it could come down to 1/8th thickness and that seems the case if the Infi dimples are fully removed....nice job as well...although your edges generally seem higher and thinner than I take mine....it is nice to see they work well....

I perhaps have a SJTAC in satin and snakeskin which I have taken that thin for game/bushcraft/delicate work...and as you say they are amazing slicers when done like this...

Fantastic job! I really like what you've done to your collection. I hate coated blades. Thanks for sharing those. Did you take it to a full convex?

If I ever grind out the INFI dimples and the "dent", I will indeed have a 1/8" thick anorexic Bushwacker. But that might be good. And yes, I did take this edge a little higher and thinner than most I do. It is fully convexed for all practical purposes.
