Thinking about buying an edc knife in the $50-100 range for my daughter for Christmas. (She's 23). What are your suggestions? Thought about a Spydie Dragonfly in SS.

The dragonfly would be a good choice, but I would try to go for something with a little more functions. I think Saks with a little blade, scissors and a file are great for the ladies and non knife people. I feel it is a great way to get em started:)

Victorinox Compact does everything she'll need it to do: blade, bottle opener / can opener / wire stripper / flathead screwdriver, scissors, pen, toothpick, tweezers, keyring, corkscrew, micro screwdriver, hook, nail file, and straight pin.

What sort of use does she have for a knife? What work does she do? What hobbies?

I agree that a SAK can be a pretty useful tool to have on hand for a non-knife sort of person, but would suggest that a SAK is pretty useful for a knife person too.

She has a multi-tool and SAK. Looking for a "knife" knife. She is a landscape architect, loves the outdoors, hiking, camping etc.

I think that a Benchmade Mini-Grip would be comfortable in feminine hands and the blade is large enough to be useful. Available in a multitude of colors too. :)

That opens it up all the way. EDC for a landscape architect ain't what it is for an office worker. She needs a serious knife, at least in the field. The outdoors women I know don't go for the cutesy pink handles, etc. Pick just like you would for a man.

I think highly of the Ontario Rat-1 for a folder, and have been drooling over the Queen drop point, if she'll go for a fixed.

If you think she'll like the Dragonfly get her the Tattoo Dragonfly:thumbup:
I have one comeing for my girlfriend and she can't wait for it.

I looked at the Cricket, but not sure I'm up to sharpening it when she brings it back dull!

I know the curvey edge looks challenging to keep sharp, but I find the crock sticks do a fine job with all my knives.

Do let us know what you choose and how she likes it.

My daughter is close to the same age as yours. What I would have picked out for her versus what she "borrowed" from my stash was a complete surprise to me.

She carries a CRKT M16 EDC ( the smallest one with an aluminum frame) clipped to her back pocket. She finds it easy to hold, open/close and carry clipped. I would say her second choice is a SAK she carries in her hand bag. She doesn't care about any of the things I find important in my knife selection process. :)
